Hi, I’m Kathy and new to ebikes. Live in Oregon. Purchased a Luna Fixed Stealth to get me to work (1.6 miles each way). The Cannondale it replaced had been good to me but has mechanical issues and was ergonomically causing me grief. The Luna has made my commute very easy and coupled with REI full zipper rain pants, very dry and quick. Love the belt drive and only 3 gears. I put a 7” stem extender on and it’s super comfy now. Will try big hills this weekend (got it 3 days ago).

I’m very interested in your view of the bike. I have a Detroit Bikes e-sparrow and this Luna seems like something I have considered in an upgrade to my e-sparrow. Curious, have you ridden the bike without any assist ? To extend range on mine, it’s a single speed, I’ll have the motor off but the way it’s geared, it’s a bit of a sluggish ride. Any feedback is appreciated.

Yeah, if I have it in PAS 3 it drains the battery, immediately. I biked home w/o the motor. I’m a wuss and it was not a problem (mostly level ground, 1/2 mile). It only has 3 speeds so hills might be an issue. My commute is only 1.6 miles each way so I I was surprised at how the battery gauge dropped so quickly to 0 bars.

Yup. Already done.
Battery life on the e-sparrow isn’t the greatest either and it’s a single speed. Where we live we have moderate hills and I think that having the 3 speeds might help. Thanks for the feedback.

I had the exact same reaction as Rich C about a short 1.6 mile flat commute and an e-bike. I didn't read his reply as condescending and
my reply is not intended to be either. I don't know Rich C, but he's extremely knowledgeable and well spoken. I think he had a reasonable question.

You got a point. This is an electric bike forum and to give advice saying you can use a normal bike is just silly..there’s other forums for normal bikes.
I didn’t find him obnoxious tho..maybe he’s trying to save you money (there are good gear ratios for flat roads). It’s hard to accurately assume someone’s intent

It's just common sense to ride an ebike for "short" commutes! Faster than a regular bike and less sweat to boot. A brief, flat ride on a hot day at slower speeds with no pedal assist still results in heavy perspiration, at least for me.
Not only that, but such short commutes can be bad for cars. This is especially true in cold weather, when condensation forms but doesn't blow out of cars' internals. That's one reason some cars' exhaust systems don't make it to 100k.
The Luna Stealth would be among my first choices if I were a commuter. Congratulations, Kathy! I hope you'll give us the steep climb report

It’s not perfect but the belt drive certainly deserves consideration, no?
I have 3 gears, which admittedly isn’t enough for me to get up crazy steep hills that are tough to walk up, let alone ride. It is a twist gear shift, internal hub gear shifting (or whatever it’s called). I ride gear 2 for flat/slight incline, 3 for decline, 1 for heavier incline.
