Need expert suggestions

Hi,
I'm planning to start a bike accessories shop. I would like to get some suggestions as I'm new to this. I have started the registration process. We are also discussing the promotion strategies for our shop. Can I get some suggestions from the experienced people here? We are planning to have some online and offline advertising. One of my friends suggested me direct mail advertising. Has anyone used it? While searching for it, I read a blog((Link Removed - No Longer Exists)) which describes the unique and creative direct mail ideas. Any more ideas to go with it? Your suggestions and opinions will be highly appreciated.

Probably the worst time to start a bicycle business of any kind. The industry is in a free for all with declining demand, bloated inventories, and shrinking margins. Read this weeks issue of Bicycle Retailer News to validate my comments. But....my best to you.
