Hub Motor Tech

Battery Technology continues to update, however motor improvements have minimal. This is just a recent article noting some nice advancements in axial flux motors, which might have an application to direct drive hub motors for eBikes. Weight an efficiency are two drawbacks to rear hub motors, but I really enjoy the smooth strong silent power from my ST2.

For the the kind of riding I do, hub motors are more efficient. Once ST2 gets upto speed, it uses minimal energy compared to Bosch speed motor.
The innovation can also be about manufacturing a high performance motor that can be sold at affordable prices.

Interesting Ravi...I'm experimenting a bit with a Specialized Vado to compare it with my Stromer ST-2. Clearly the mid placed motor changes the handling in terms of balance, but the hub motor seems more efficient...but still in the experimenting stage...
