Hello all, my name is lyle and I have a 1000w fat ebike rear axel drive. I just purchased the trailer I wanted but I knew it would not fit because my bike has a million attachments using up all my anchor points. So I am going to weld a seat post hitch and bar. This is why I am here. Well to be part of the community but truthfully I am in need of a bit of help locating the namw or the part that is basically a universal joint coupler. Although most ujoints have bearings and are way too beafy for a 1 or 2 inch bicycle towbar. I am not sure what it is called or where to buy it but I need to be able to weld both ends and have it articulate on the vertical plain as well as left and right on the horizontal plain relative to the bike. A 3rd axis would caus the trailer to cant left or right from perpendicular to the bike. I see many trailers this style online in pictures but I cant find it or its name. Anyone? Help. Here are pics of my bike and trailer. Other close up is the type of joint I need for my tow bar. Thanks.

Thank you, I am not sure what you just said but I am pretty sure you're making fun of me jk Local Bike Shop and Universal Joint? Must be. I found a fix where I can attach it to the rear of my frame. My bike frame is 3 pieces, I think? Each side hinges in several places and I am orderes some socket shoulder bolts to replace the shoulder sleeves curently installed. Its a little dicey being a stress point on the fame but I am replacing the bolts with machine steel.

As far as the local shop?... I live atop the Appalachin mountains and the closest thing we got to a real bike shop is a hillbillies porch with a sign that says "byesickle reepears heer" lol so my online community and etailers are my lifeline to the real world, God Love. I will post pics up if my solution works. Thanks for the input, its always valued.

You're now an EBR veteran... you got all of the lingo correct on the first try!

Perhaps you can educate us more on the Appalachian vernacular going forward.

BTW, photos of your universal joint would be helpful if you want specific advice.

Lol, I am a transplant from California and washington so I am as lost as you about the lingo lol. Well, I had a brainstorm and decided to order a shoulder joint bolt to replace the shoulder pins in the rear hinge of my frame. It worked perfectly. Replaced it with machine quality fasteners. However I killed my PAS yesterday ans have one ordered along with puller. Trial by fire lol. Is securing a trailer to the suspension hinge on to the frame wise? Well... we are going to find out. Should be fine. The shoulder is identical is diameter and length. Just with threads that stick out an inch or so past the side of the hinge frame. I let you know if it holds up lol

It looks like an inspired design for the rear hitch and sping shock... always a good idea to keep the center of gravity low.

Thank You. Its a Rambo trailer. Ill pobably get a bigger two wheel trailer for heavier loads. This one is good foe the trails I think, well, we shall see. Thanks again for the input. I love learning new stuff. This my hobbie this year and maybe years to come.

i can ID the hitch/coupler/towbar in the seatpost-coupled arrangement on the right. This is the Tout Terrain Mule, just about one of the most expensive trailers on the market. I would not recommend sourcing your parts here. First, there are only two distributors in the US, and they would have to order for you. The Mule shares the tow bar/coupler arrangement with the child carrier model, and I understand that the replacement cost is over $300, so ....

For this specific setup, the UJC is attached to the towarm by nut and bolt. The other side accepts the cylindrical hitch and is then secured via skewer or nut/bolt. No welding on this end unless you make your own hitch. It is basically two cylinders welded together, one for the seatpost, the other attaches to the coupler as I mentioned.

The other side of the tow bar would slide into something you’ve welded onto the trailer body. It wouldn’t be hard to do. I have attached pictures that show you each end of the UJC. Let me know if you want to see the hitch and how the tow arm attaches to the trailer.

Appalachia? That’s a long stretch. How close are you to the DC Metro area? You would be welcome to inspect the parts, take measurements as needed.

Oh yeah that would work beautifully. I am all the way at the sw corner of Virginia. So 6 hour drive to dc. That is exactly what I wouod have needed but I found a solution by attaching to my rear bike frame hinges. I replaced the hinge sleeves with shoulder socket bolts with the apropriate matching dimensions plus threaded to fit the trailers hardware. It work worked perfectly. Just had to figure out the right machine fasterner. Thank you again. That is exactly the kind of connection I was looking for. We will see if my frame holds up. It should?! Lol ✌
