I have been a long term Specialized e-bike rider, having owned an original 2015 Specialized Turbo and now a 2022 Specialized Turbo Vado SL 5.0 EQ. I am seriously considering a Checkpoint+ (or Domane+) instead of a Specialized Creo 2. Based on my research so far, the Trek TQ-based bikes have caught up with Specialized SL V1.2 bikes and then some with slightly more powerful motors, slightly larger built in batteries, better battery charge setup, and roughly equivalent features (range extender batteries, built in frame mounted dashboard, handlebar controls, etc.). It also appears that the Trek bike may be a bit less expensive when compared wit the equivalent Specialized Creo 2.

I am specifically interested in the pro's and con's between the newest Domane+ and Checkpoint+ assuming they are equivalently equipped. Thanks in advance for your feedback

The Domane has a road comfort/endurance geometry, the Checkpoint is a gravel bike so it has a relaxed, more upright geometry. Gravel bikes feature taller head tubes, longer top tubes, and wider tires for comfort. The Checkpoint weighs a few pounds more. Both use the TQ HPR60 drive system. The Domane uses a higher modulus carbon for greater stiffness where it counts and comfort where it allows.

The new Domane+ SL has the hpr40 motor. It’s got an even more relaxed (upright) geometry than the previous model and has 20mm rise in the bars with relatively short frame reach, all making it a very “relaxed” fit.

The checkpoint has a noticeably lower stack height and more stretched out making it more aggressive than the domane+.
The checkpoint does have the more powerful hpr60 and can take tires even fatter than the domane+’s 40mm.

So they’re not the usual “aggressive road vs relaxed gravel” bike geometries. One change Trek made with the hpr40 is you can now set the power delivery to 200% of rider power, like you can on the hpr50 and 60. Other brands limited the 40 to 100% boost. I haven’t heard if firmware will be changing that for the others.
