EnergyPak w/rock guard Upgrade Disappointment

Who Giant are thinking they are? I am very much irritated. Read on.

Any serious e-MTB has their battery protected against rock shards and rocks themselves. Since many designs for frame-integrated batteries make them bottom insertable (Turbo Levo, Giant e-MTBs), the battery is lined with so called "rock guard". (Non-MTB e-bikes need no battery guard).

Both the battery and the motor of Giant Trance E+ are protected against rocks with their individual rock guards.

I e-mailed a Giant LBS asking for an upgrade to the EnergyPak 625, and I specifically mentioned it has to come with a rock guard. Guess what. The rock guard can reach the LBS in November 2020. That's a bad joke! Besides, the rock guard costs US$70, okay for me but not the waiting time! But that's not the end of the story.

The recommended retail price of the EnergyPak Smart 625 is... US$1200!!! Come on! Specialized (who are by no means cheap) charge US$925 for the 600 Wh battery and a battery cover. Twelve hundred bucks for a similar Giant battery?! There must be something very wrong with you, Giant...

I can see PDoz your sus fork works pretty hard for you! :)

Yeah, I run higher pressures than " optimal" in combination with extending the travel out by 10 mm - it's a desperate attempt to compensate for the steep steering head angle . Those forks are still wonderfully plush , and now she ownly shakes her head as I pass trances

I feel your pain on the pricing... shop around and see if you can find another supplier in the US or Asia.

There are also aftermarket high capacity batteries available for Yamaha motors... External mount only so far.

It is not practical. It is an e-MTB. Thank you for your sympathy though!
Stephan, I compare the price of a good bike to a good horse🤔... both can be life changers 😁... they just eat different fuel. In the end, feeding your bike with a 625Wh battery at $1200 costs less then feeding my horse for 7 months. 🐴 🚴‍♀️

Not to mention vet bills for a stupid horse....

Sorry but the electricity does not cost as much as the battery :) Knowing @Anna and @Readytoride love horses, I'm "developing" photos from my latest trips now. Horses are to be perceived there (as a famous meme reads) :D

Buying the battery. My brothers will make a temporaty rock guard from a sheet of metal...

The price of Giant's 625 wh is ⚡ to say the least:eek: looking at just a hair under $1104. One would think Giant could do better on this price sell more and actually make more money?? Giant makes good stuff just think they really dropped the ball on the price of this battery

That's the price used by any big brand for that sized of battery... Specialized sell their 600 Wh battery at a similar price. @Dallant: How much did your Bosch battery cost?

That’s the going rate based on the battery plus the color correct cover and end caps.
BTW, that’s very similar to the price I was quoted 9+ months ago. It’s a ton of money but that’s the game we’re in!

As the OP, I have forgotten to report I eventually got the rockguard from Giant after several months of waiting.

Does anybody have any thoughts regarding battery rotation? In my case I would have the older 500wh and the new 625wh
