Bosch Nyon-A few questions

I've obtained a Nyon, installed it on my wife's Electra Townie Commute (swapped out Intuvia display), setup e-bike connect app, and all appears to be doing what is intended.
Got from the eBay seller where others may have got theirs, regardless, it's the 1Gb version.
It does not "See incoming text messages on screen" even though it is paired, etc.
According to Bosch, "Once you link the system to your smartphone via the application. You can be alerted when an incoming text message comes through directly on the Bosch Nyon Display. For safety Bosch won’t allow you to read the message until you have stopped cycling, it just alerts you."
I know this has been previously mentioned in several posts here but I don't seem to locate any answers or solutions.
I'm just curious if the ones being sold on eBay are there because of a deficiency.
Settings screen states, Bosch Nyon 3410, Serial Number 45620023410, part number 1270020907, software version 1.7.5.0.
Overall, I'm kind of OK with the overload of information provided, and I'm also considering to install the required cable and mounting on my Trek Super Commuter+ 8S (which I have already obtained needed items), but before I do I am trying to find out if all the effort will be warranted or not.The last thing I want to do is jump though all the hoops to get it installed and setup just to find out the reason these are available is because they have defects or other issues that will necessitate the removal to go back to the Purion on my bike.
So, to summarize, anyone have any info on the eBay items as described, why the texts do not show on screen, as well as any additional helpful info?

When I first installed my Nyon around two years ago I was able to see incoming text messages which would only show who it was from and the advisory to pull over to retrieve the actual message.
Then at some point it stopped receiving texts.
If you read up on the Nyon and it capabilities you will see that text messages are not implemented "at this time" so perhaps it will be reintroduced at some point.
My guess is the potential liability that Bosch wants to avoid.
But overall love the Nyon and have to again thank Alaskan for leading the pack into acquiring and installing these great additions to our Bosch powered bikes!!

It’s working again.

Are you in the USA? I am.

Yes. Like you, I lost use of this feature and mentioned it here. The functionality was restored for me around May, I want to say. I believe it coincided with an app or firmware update. I will test it later to confirm but I have been receiving the alerts. I am currently touring so I don’t get as many as I normally do ...

The text alert works on my Nyon but I could care less. Not being an avid fan of texting, I might even try to disable it. I won't stop my ride to read a text anyway. Whatever it is can wait till I take a break or the end of the ride.

I thank you so much for your opinion, Alaskan, however, of more importance is the firmware revision, and your opinion as to the initial posting. Can you comment?

As I recall, this feature is controlled through the app. My version is 2.2.9.3
On phone with Bosch, they will not tell me the latest software version because I am in the US and they do not support it. So, how did you get the 2.2.9.3 version?

The software versions on my Nyons (all three of them) is 1.7.5.0. You can update the software directly when the Nyon is connected to wifi. All three of mine were purchased on ebay. They appeared to be new and even had the original peel off film on the screen and were without any functional issues. They have 1gb of map storage as opposed to the newer versions but I have all of Washington Oregon and British Columbia on mine with about 200mb still free.

My nyon also has software 1.7.5.0. I wonder if the 2.2.9.3 version you are referring to relates to the Ebike Connect app version. My Android version of the Ebike Connect app is 2.3.0.4. Unlike the previous versions of the Android Ebike Connect app, I was able to update to this version directly on the Google App Store.

Yes, I said above that the version refers to the app, not the firmware. If you just look under Bosch’s Release notes for the app, you’ll see that the versioning is consistent. In fact, it was in the release notes for the app where we were told about the temporary disabling of text messages.

Users experiencing problems should update the hardware firmware if the unit indicates an update is available. Then, update the app to the most recent version via Google Play (Android) or App Store (Apple). Android app versions are available to US downloaders and based on what others have said,, iPhone versions are now available, although not verified by myself.

Hopefully @tallpaul is receiving his texts now.

I did an update instruction on my Nyon and it said no updates available so 1.7.5.0 must be the current firmware, at least for the 1gb version of the Nyon.

Understood. Looking at the Apple iPhone E-bike connect app, it shows my version is 2.3.0.2
So the basic question remains; Bosch (I called them yesterday) says if I install ANYTHING on the Trek Super Commuter (I purchased the Intuvia display, the mount with cable and the remote), I will void any warranty, and I should have the local bike shop install it (I also have the Nyon to use, evaluating all of them). My research show that in this YouTube video (
) it appears I only need to "drop" the motor from its mount to access the plug end of the cable (I know how to feed the cable up the tube).
The Trek factory rep when asked if I could do it said: "As far as the Nyon goes it is something you could install on your own but it may be difficult without some bike specific tools. The main issue you will run into is running the cable through the frame and connecting the cable to the motor. This will be challenging without specific tools and some experiencing working on this bike". I did not mention voiding the warranty by doing so. However, Bosch e-bike hotline told me I would.
It my all be a moot point, as I'm going to get the new SuperCommuter in October/November when announced and have 2 buyers fighting for the purchase of my existing 'replacement Super Commuter', but I just figured if it was not a big "whoop", I'd do it. Given the warranty is until October 2020 on this bike, I just may ditch the project and sell the items here or on eBAy. The point of my initial posting was to get more info on the Nyon, as my wife is using it on her bike, and I thought it might be a good addition for me.

So your warranty will be voided if you perform the Purion -> Intuvia swap yourself, according to Bosch. This is independent of any Nyon issues, which I doubt you will have. So your real decision appears to be whether you want to pay your shop to swap out the Purion for the Intuvia.

If it makes you feel better, I was in a Trek shop yesterday where the owner complained of the increase in Purion as default.

I don't mind paying I'm concerned with the "OK/go-ahead" from Trek rep, vs. Bosch rep. That's all.
