Beware Having REI Set Up Your Canyon - Potentially Dangerous Fail

Yeah, my payments were around 100 a month so I ended up paying more than 10k but the price was 10k out the door, fully loaded which I think the only options were air-conditioning and a dash clock. It only held 10 gallons of fuel but I could go 500mi. on a tank. It had 62 HP but it weighed less than 2,000 lbs. Our current compact SUV, a GMC terrain weighs over 4,000 lbs. and gets 30mpg if you go easy with it. 252 HP with the 2.0 liter engine. After owning the CRX-HF, every other car is a gas hog. It even got better MPG than a toyota prius hybrid. My motorcycle is a 34 year old air/oil cooled 1100 CC Suzuki Katana that gets 40 MPG on a good day riding it easy. Being retired, we really don't go anywhere now so fuel prices aren't that big of a deal but when the wife and I were both working, the cost of fuel would have put a pretty big dent in our budget. I remember someone promising gas would be 2 dollars a gallon and our utility bills would be cut in half. Everyone cheered. Hell, they still cheer, I don't understand it

I just checked. It was a 1996 Civic HX VTEC with a five speed and a 115hp engine. It had alloy wheels but no AC. I did a bad thing. I traded it in in January and for $15 I purchased and installed an AC switch to fill the dummy plug in the dash. When you pushed it a blue light came on. But I never said that it had AC! I used blue nail polish to paint the 'H' in the center of the wheels so it looked a lot like a BMW. Living in Marin by the GG Bridge, I didn't need AC. The fog rolled in every afternoon.

MIne used R12 for the AC. Then R12 became unobtanium but being connected to aviation, the A and P mechanics had it and would charge my system for free. The car was never garaged but still held up really well until the last few years. It was going to cost more than the car was worth to fix all the rust and some major components were getting tired. I hated to let that car go. It probably saved me more in gas over 20 years than the car cost.

Wow, who would know? These cars not go for more than the original price, thirty-years later!
