I live in NYC and here is my main criteria for eBike

1. Upright position
2. Comfortable to drive on pothole filled manhattan roads
3. Ideally range > 20 miles
4. Something not too bulky
5. Price under $4000

based on research I had done last year, I had shortlisted priority current and giant momentum transcend. I also had gazelle ultimate T10+ and C380 in my shortlist. Also had Aventon Level and Ride1up 700 in my shortlist.

I saw ride1up announced prodigy and it looks really interesting but won’t be available until 2022.

it wasn’t originally on my list but I am wondering it Rad Mission 1 meets most of my criteria.

meanwhile I have been getting around town on either my Dualtron eagle pro or citi electric bike (like it a lot).
What would be your top pick for my top 3 criteria above?

under $4k?

Then you should also add the Juiced CCX to your list. It’s slightly more higher end than the radmission and ride1up.

It’s a very fast e-bike that does well dealing with city potholes.

Will look at CCX.
I know those bikes are at very different price point. I had sent $4k as the upper end. Only way I am going to get to that price point is if I am buying a mid drive bike with German motor. Frankly I like the feel of hub drive and for city driving don’t necessarily need a mid-drive. So I won’t seek mid-drive out but if it comes with the bike because I like the overall bike, then it’s fine.

Yes the CCX is a hub drive and about $2500.

here isa. easier way to look
mine is not as upright and I see they stopped selling that model.
Thanks. Will talk to them. I like a few models on paper.
Twenty8 E45 (older motor), Evo Lite, Evo 10, Urban Evo Etc

I want to convert a Brooklyn eight-speed, upgrading the tires and brakes. Perfect for NYC.

So today I tried Gazelle C380 and Ultimate T10+ And liked both. It was an apples to oranges comparison. I am 5’11 and C380 was medium while 10+ Was large. I liked upright feel of C380 more. I liked both better than Cannondale neo1 and giant transcend.
I do feel like I enjoy single speed bikes more in the city. So that keeps me pulling back to Rad Mission 1.
If I was to do a full bike, I like the sound of Bulls Twenty8 e45.

if i had a $4000 limit for a NYC commuter this is the bike i would get! it has all the things you need for NYC. with E-Bikes my rule is find a bike that delivers what i need and then some! i know what riding in NYC is like and you need to be prepared! I would go with a Biktrix Juggernaut Duo, you can choose your own motor(hub/BBS02/M620Ultra and battery size single or dual battery!

Thank you for sharing that.
That’s too bulky for my NYC apartment. But I may look at Swift or Swift Lite.

Have you looked into the Zen shakti?

It can handle NYC potholes, class 3, not bulky, integrated battery, European build quality with American customer service, high quality deore drivetrain, only $2k, and the company is very active on EBR and responds to customers immediately. They changed the final colour based on customer feedback from yellow to black or grey.

Agree! I will be getting one when available.

Ohh I like that. Wish it was available.

I’d be remiss if I didn’t throw the Allant+7 in the ring. Under $4k, front suspension, great Bosch CX motor, 27.5 x 2.25 tires, not bulky but not a lightweight. Simple, tough and reliable with a fantastic Trek support network.

Bummer... they might have other models under $4K but I’m not sure.

Forgot to mention but as @Dallant recommended the allant 7 checks all your boxes too and it has a great front suspension so it can handle NYC potholes no problem.

$1999 now- it's pretty good value. I'd buy that bike. big 52V battery. Nice.
Oh is it wow, that is a very competitive price.

This thread has made me realize there are still alot of great choices in the $2k-$4k range. One doesn’t need to spend $8k-$10k to have a great ebike in 2021. That’s good news considering supply chain current events.
