Bafang 350w or 500w

Hi there,

I had converted a Boardman MTX 8.6 with Bafang 750W 48V 17.5Ah before and it was a killer. I found to way too powerful for my intended use so I sold it on the very next day.

Now, I have a Whyte Whitechapel V2 as I wanted to go as low weight as possible for the budget and have been riding for a while in London, mostly flat in central.

I am thinking between the 350W 36V 10Ah or 15Ah as there is only a 1kg difference between the two batteries or should I go for 500W? I want the lightest possible because in case I run out of battery, I can still pedal.

My bike is around 11kg-12kg and if I add a kit it will make it around 17kg-19kg which is not that light to pedal but still below the 20kg.

What are your opinions on getting the 350W 36V? and should I get 10Ah or 15Ah?

What I need really is just a little extra push and not going faster than 20mph. Also- I intend to use it for about 50kms max.

What motor did you have?

Was it a mid drive or hub drive?

The 750W Bafang can be Ultra, BBSHD, BBS02, BBS01... along with numerous hub drive like G060, G040, G020, G360, etc... (because people use different settings and controllers, 750W can be anything)

It was a mid-drive sorry I forgot to mention. I only deal with mid-drives. So what do you recommend getting next from my choices above?

check the weight of both set ups, if weight is the same i would go with the 48v 500 for better range,if its to fast turn down the PAS, if the 48v system is to heavy go 36v

You're looking then at a Bafang BBS01 in 350W with either 36V10ah or 36V15ah. The 500W option is a BBS02, which requires 48V. For less weight, it's the BBS01, but I bet that with the 15ah it weighs the same as the BBS02 with a 10aH battery.

I have a BBS02, and I have run it on a 48V10aH battery. That's 480WH, good for at least 30 miles in PAS1 assist. I rarely go higher.

I regularly ride my BBS01B 36V 250W, as well as a 2014 BBS01(A) 36V 350W.
Both are able to cruise at a comfortable 15MPH.

Does it have to be Bafang?

What about TSDZ2?

It does not have to be Bafang no, but that is the one most popular and reliable and the one I have worked with. I will check this TSDZ2 out right now. Thanks for the recommendation

Sadly some of our comments are without actually having experience with the suggested motor/kit.

I'd consider either motor IF you have access to repair parts and support.
