ASI Controller upgrade for Stromer?

So I noticed that when EBR went to Amego to do their bike review, I noticed that there's a Stromer with ASI controller.

When I think about ASI controller, I think about Luna Cycle or something kind of high performance upgrade kit.

Does it work well with Stromers?

Watch this video at approx. 0:40

Stromer controller from ASI is specially built and tuned for that particular model ST2 platform.

It is not easy to simply switch to ASI BAC 800.
They are one of the best controllers though.

But he had an upgraded controller, so I'm assuming it is possible.

Where does it say he has an upgraded controller?

I know these bikes very well and can comment further after seeing further proof of that.

I posted a video on my first post.
Court said his Stromer has an upgraded ASI controller.
Maybe the mechanic himself upgraded it ? He even has the mechanic gloves on for the ride, so he must have done some custom mods for his St 1.

What kind of benefit do you expect from such a controller?

Where outside the frame would you mount such a brick?
On the hills is A LOT faster. A little bit on flats too , it helps.
The stock one is 18amps, a 35amps one changes the whole ebike experience.
It needs to be programmed for the motor, special cable to Pc.

I fully agree with this.

The specs of this ASI device mentioned at the entrance question are:
  • 70 amp for one minute bursts
  • 40 amp continuous rating
Would the cells in Stromer battery be capable for such load?
How would the selfheating be when such load is demanded?
What reduced battery lifetime has to be expected, if such load is routinely demanded?
Will the BMS of the Stromer battery accept such high temperature and amperage?

I fully agree with this.
I would read the Grin website pages about it. Their controller is based on the ASI, but better in many ways, b/c it can be programmed for any motor with custom cable that Grin sells.
One of the engineers ( Justin)from Grin also can answer all this Q's a lot better then me.

Here is his response back in jan. when i started my conversion.

And as you know, Bh/Stromer have same controllers and same battery maker. i think latest Stromers have a dif. battery maker, but all info still applies. Just talk with the guys from Grin for any info. They are very knowledgeable.

Their controller is based on the ASI,

Good to know, there is a device which seems to be similar and is probably comparable and would maybe do the same.

But the question is about the Stromer battery. If this is demanded:
  • 70 amp for one minute bursts
  • 40 amp continuous rating
will the battery shut down for self protection within seconds? Or will the battery damaged within a few weeks?

The answer will help to answer the title question:
