EVELO Galaxy Lux Impressions

Hi guys,

Last week the folks at EVELO mentioned a new model called the Galaxy Lux that has just launched today! I wanted to share my thoughts real quick. It's basically an "upgraded and enhanced" Galaxy 500 with larger 48 volt battery, similar motor (torque sensing mid-drive), and the same automatically shifting continuously variable transmission from Enviolo. I have reviewed the Galaxy 500 here which could serve as a starting place if you're considering the Galaxy Lux, and hopefully I'll cover the new model directly someday as well.

In short, this is a great option for petite riders because it uses 24" wheels. Most electric bikes use 26" to 28" wheels that elevate the frame from the ground, this one is lower. The Galaxy Lux is a step-thru ebike with a deep wave frame, and it's using the fanciest drive systems with a throttle, drivetrain with automatic shifting and clean quiet belt, and also has a smartphone app. The bike should be easy to mount and stabilize, but some of the weight is high and towards the rear due to the battery position. In addition to the rear rack, it also includes fenders and lights to keep you clean and dry. The riser stem, swept back handlebar, and ergonomic grips combine to provide a comfortable upright body position.

EVELO is one of the early ebike brands that I actually bought and tried before launching EBR. It's neat to see them continuing to offer unique, thoughtfully designed products. They provide a great warranty, and are easy to work with in my experience. This is not a paid post, most of my reviews for them have been unpaid as well. Just wanted to share what I was seeing and hope it helps someone :)

It does look very interesting, but economics (and the desire to buy two Evelo bikes) led me to select the Galaxy SL. I am somewhat surprised at the lack of reviews on this model from owners. I did originally purchase and then returned the Galaxy 500 so I may have some input, as a normal rider, on the difference between the two. I am hopeful that I will enjoy the manual CVT over the Automatiq as it did not work well for me.

Do you think you will review it any time soon Court? Leaning towards this vs. the Omega due to being 5'6" and wanting something a bit lighter. Not too many people who have bought it have posted on the Evelo website with reviews being from other iterations of the Galaxy.

They do opened box refurbished bikes for big discount and havev35% off black Friday sale all November. This bike comes in at about $2,500.,Which is very good with the features.

I'm curious how does a throttle work with a torque drive ? It sounds strange.

I don't know if it's strange, but pedaling a belt drive torque sensor bike is a real pleasure. More to the point, if throttle riding is your primary thing, you can buy a perfectly comfortable and speedy bike for a lot less money. I have the Omega, but would just as well lose the throttle.
I'd be curious to hear how the newer 48V battery compares with the previous 36V version in terms of power and range.

Thanks for feedback, it really sounds like it will be my next bike. I wonder if the bigger battery will increase the weight. I like the 54 lbs range. I don't ride on the throttle except to assist up steeper hills ,maybe to get started from not moving . It's not a biggy but I'm kinda used to it now.
