Lugging a Motor, Why it's Bad

Since my new Yamaha can display cadence, I finally know what my preferred cadence range is. 50 to 60! Slower than I'd guessed it would be. I hope the mid motor won't be harmed by that cadence (yes, I shift!).

Rexlion, this is too low. A big part of the battery charge goes to the ambient as the heat because of low motor efficiency at such a cadence. Please try pedalling at least at 70. No harm to the motor if you pedal slower but pedalling faster will make your knees thank you. Just a gear down.
 
Curious if you Rholoff leaks oil and if the oil ever needs to be changed? Personally, I'd love to have one on my bike as constant chain maintenance is a PITA.. That said, I'm going on 2,000mi. on my 9 speed ultra powered bike on the original chain which has yet to stretch past .5
Rohloff recommends the oil be changed every 5000km. I change mine a bit more than that. My hub did leak a tiny bit, but after Rohloff reduced the recommended oil amount by half (from 25ml to 12.5ml) it stopped leaking. Bafang Ultra here.

Same with a KMC e8 chain @2850mi.
Oil leaks are reported but I've yet to see any with 4000mi on one Rohloff and the same 2850mi on the second Rohloff. I'll be doing an oil change soon around 3000mi.
 
I've only been caught in 9th gear on a grade once or twice. I'll do the get off, raise the rear wheel and shift it to a lower gear routine now but it's extremely rare. With a canbus ultra motor, you can't change any motor parameters. Couple that with a touchy throttle and starting off in 9th from a dead stop is a really bad idea.

What I would do sometimes is use walk mode... it's a steady predictable rate and much easier on my knees than pedaling.

I’m about to get laminated.
It is thankfully a rare Cartesian condition that only happens in cases such as when a sheet of plywood falls on a worker as the steamroller is passing.

Bloody Stupid Johnson invented the bike with a Pinon Box to a Belt to a Hub-Drive. Hint, you only need a belt if it needs something stronger than a chain. But its hub-drive!

Yes, like the three lovers seeking a little privacy inside the hydraulic cardboard bailer. Lamination is not preferred once, let alone a second time like @Jeremy McCreary , but a Cartesian-way of being is so less complicating with only the X, Y to deal with and not all the multi-dimensionality of a complex natural world. I purchased a designated small crock-pot. A degreased new chain is hanging to dry in the sun. I also got a big bag of bio-degradable soy wax pellets, used for making candles. The wax just finished melting in the pot. Then I will immerse the new chain in it. I will install it with a new cassette today and it will never get dirty or need lube and will make the new cassette last.
 
I posted this in another thread but I've had good success with a very uncommon method of chain maintenance. After cleaning the chain with kerosene, I use a wet lube on each link. After a few minutes I then hit the chain with maxima chain wax. My thought is that the chain wax sort of seals in the wet lube. I was laughed at for posting this but I'm enjoying over 2,000mi. on a 9 speed chain with an ultra motor that isn't babied. I'm right at .5 on several different chain checkers and will replace the chain soon, not sure I want to wait until .75 but we'll see, I could get another 1,000mi. out of this chain
 
I was still getting bubbles out of the chain after two hours. That means the wax is going in. I was dumb and didn't attach something like a homemade spoke hanger hook in the middle of the chain. It is hot as hell and slippery as an eel to take out and if it whips you will get burned and ruin your clothing. Did you know that Freud was obsessed by eels as a child? Is that an eel in your pocket young man? What is weird is that it smells likes Halloween. This must be what they use as a mold release on rubber masks.

After it cooled for a couple of hours I dipped my fingernails in it as a medium to clean under them. That worked great, I rubbed it around and now my hands are super soft and moisturized, but smell like a Halloween mask. I read that it can take up to 10% fragrance. Maybe I will do something other than MucOff banana. I have used pre-treatment of hands before a dirty job. It works. Artificial dirt. When your nails and crevasse's are packed with other stuff like wax, no grime can enter. If I had to shake a thousand hands a day, I would do this. It is like an invisible protective glove. Great for working on dirty bikes as well. If you wax your right thumb will it not show on a notary pad.
