Amazon says it will no longer allow the sale of certain high-speed e-bikes in California following a consumer alert issued by California Attorney General Rob Bonta last month warning about illegal electric bikes and motorcycles being marketed to consumers.

Then people will just order them directly from AliExpress or another vendor. Or if they have to get it from Amazon, have it delivered to a friend or shop across the state line. These kinds of bans won't stop it.
I agree; and it is a step in the right direction. Amazon gave these motorcycles some credibility and a lot of eyeballs. Now that is gone. With anyone under 18 the cops should just chop off a six-inch section of wire to the throttle and formally warn the parents. As far as I know three sets of parents are being charged currently with reckless child abuse for letting their children ride and crash eMotos, in Benetia, Walnut Creek, and Aliso Viejo. The Aliso Viejo mother was warned and then her kid killed an 81-year-old veteran pedestrian. She is up for seven-years in prison for manslaughter.

There was also this tragic story, just a few miles from me:

Investigators said the boy was traveling at approximately 35 mph when he struck the center median on Magnolia Street, causing him to lose control of the electric motorcycle and be ejected.

A guy said, well they are legal to possess. Yes, and they are being marketed to the general public and not as farm equipment. Instead to be used on the street. Start at four minutes in.

Ugh....

I started at 4 mins, and watched it through the end. Was getting anxiety watching him zoom through the neighborhood at 35 mph.
Between that and blowing through the yellow light, it's sure to get all the 13 year olds of any age salivating for more

The problem I see is, they are being treated by the public as e-bikes, which they are NOT!
When on just the rear motor, not pedaling and going thirty under throttle, he said, "That is standard Class 3 mode". There are hundreds of these promotional videos. This was just a random example. Kids can also watch the promotional videos on how the defeat speed limits: Cont/Alt/Delete hold for 20 seconds, turn off, cut this wire, then reboot. Season ticket on a one way ride.
