With 125% tariffs, will the e-bike market die?

No, your national unit of measurement is the Pole, eight Poles are a Mast and theres 90 Sticks in a Mast.

Here is the Granary-upon-Narew (facing Modlin with its international Warsaw airport WMI). Built in 1844, the granary still stands (although it is near to its collapse).
See the height of the foundation: it is 2.0 m high. How do I know? I told the man nicknamed Kalon to stand by the building. He is 2.00 m tall. Hence 1 Kalon = 2.0 metres :)

Or size 54 (road/gravel bikes), M (general), S3 (MTB)

Is 47-622 a 28 or 29" wheel? (It is why ETRTO leaves no doubt)

It is because a long time ago Airbus realized the only way to conquer the U.S. market would be setting the distance to nautical miles, speed to knots, altitude to feet, vertical speed to fpm. Now, the pressure is hPa worldwide except the U.S. where it is inches mercury. The most radical change was measuring the amount of fuel in kilograms worldwide in the aviation. Please read or watch the "Gimli Glider" history: a very interesting case on mismatching kilograms with pounds. The U.S. commercial aviation regulator has written "Eventually, all aviation measurement units must become metric" but no date was ever given.

Both units are used (in parallel).

Please indicate the BSA thread in your Haibike :) Not sure how your motor is made by my crankarms are tightened or loosened with an 8 mm hex key :)

Not in my country. We have McRoyal or WieśMac (Countryside Mac) :) Is the British McD colour scheme still red or is it green (as in Europe?)

A Countryside Mac of Poland :) No pickles!
Well height is still feet and inches and weight in stone for me - not sure about how younger kids measure it these days. Road bikes metric or that weird old French bike tyre measurement (700c 650b or 650c etc) and MTB being American in origin is in inches 26er 29er etc. It's a total lovely very human hotchpotch mess of a complete mixture yet we seem to muddle along nicely. I'm constantly googling bike weights from kg into lbs for instance.

Very true, but it gives people something to whine about.

I have 2 sets of wrenches. If one feels loose in fit, I grab the other set and see if one fits better; I realize that is an inconvenience, but I waste more than 14 seconds doing other things.

To be clear, gerrymandering is practiced by both parties where allowed by law (which is practically everywhere).

Gerrymandering and the winner take all electoral college(48 states) are IMO the 2 primary methods that the parties use to maintain their duopoly.
Indeed. The two party system makes any big improvements very difficult ... now it's by design ... with everything reduced to only two parties, they can't present many solutions to any issues, they can't even think beyond an increasingly obsolete left or right view.

Like participating in this thread 🙃

That's why the Independents need to rally and take over. Way overdue.

I'm an independent, but vote Republican against Democrats. There is little chance some other than D or R has a chance; would vote for Libertarian if there was a chance.
That's ideologically acceptable... But history has proven time and time again that regulations are a necessary evil. Greed alway wins out over decency. I thank God that for the most part the days of sweatshops, ramped toxic dumping and alike are not the norm. Most all regulations were passed to solve an existing issue and not preemptive.
The government push towards renewable, recycling and medical advances would never happen at a meaningful rate if not for regulation and incentive.
If this totally ignorant approach of just cutting for the sake of doing so continues... we are headed for a very ugly place.
The good ol' days only remember the selective good.

622 mm in ETRTO always means the same rim diameter. If you say 47-622 then it belongs to 28" sizes. If you, however, say 55-622, it becomes a twenty-niner. Why use confusing and obsolete systems?

I disagree with federal gov't incentives for anything.
I have some nice mini split HVAC and it was nice getting a tax break on them making the more expensive units affordable. The government's return is less stress on the inadequate electrical grid which cost so much more to make more robust.
Just one simple example of how it's often a win - win.

edit: Then there's things like...
"Every dollar that NIH gave out in 2024 to a grant is estimated to have returned $2.46 just in a year. "

Although I disagree with incentives, I take advantage of them. Would have put solar on my van even without tax credit. Makes complete sense to buy $400 worth of panels and get 30% tax credit on the ~$5000 worth of system.

Added: if something is a good idea, shouldn't need a government bribe to do it.

You speak as if everyone has the same responsibilities and/or hardship.
And if something is a win - win it's hardly a bribe... It's simply a good idea.
Every compromise for the good of the many is a good idea as all benefit from everyone doing better in the end.
I wonder how much of this imbecile it's going to take before the scared and follow blindly become woke to the reality.

It's wealth redistribution; many don't consider that win-win.

I fully agree there are people that need assistance. It should come from state/local rather than federal.

I didn't read this whole thread but how are companies like Lectric keeping prices low while Aventon bumps up prices every year (and R1U just announced price increases but they actually lowered prices last year)?

Cost of goods increases matter for marginal profit type items so not sure what type of markup there is in ebikes?

A friend has stuff made oversees for 75c and sells them for $20 so even a 200% increase can be absorbed or even passed on as a new $22 price.

So it really depends on what the wholesale cost is on these ebikes.

Meanwhile, small plane pilots still argue about whether to use nautical miles and knots (which has advantages in navigation planning) or statute miles and mph (which makes explaining things to nonpilots easier).

Most of the old measurements are based on powers or fractions of two (half inch, quarter inch, eighth inch, etc.). The metric system (and all of mathematics) would work a lot better if humans had 8 instead of 10 fingers and toes.

The best thing about the United States in this matter is the sizes construction materials are made (powers of two). My Dad once helped his American friend add a floor to the friend's house and was amazed how easy that was.

On the other hand... 5,280 feet a statute mile? Seriously? :)

Pardon? I thought the metric system was based on the fact humans had 10 fingers and toes :)

What I cannot understand about the U.S. aviation is the barometric pressure is still given in inch Hg. Pilots all around the world (except Russian and Chinese domestic ones) learned using feet and knots. It is because it is just numbers (if for instance, the recommended speed is 250, it is just a number to maintain). It would be so easy for the U.S. pilots just accept the fact the physical atmosphere is 1,013 hPa, that's it. They need to use hPa abroad anyway!

The last interesting thing is Association Football (soccer). It is based on Imperial units as an English sport, and it caught everywhere except the U.S. Now, the distance of the penalty kick point to the goal is 12 yards. The whole world knows it is eleven metres... :) No one thinks of soccer in terms of feet or yards!

Ice hockey would be better on a 100 meter pitch/rink. Why do we even have ice hockey in Florida and Vegas? The Canadians have not won the championship since '93, and why do they even play in July. I used to watch hockey live when it was the same temp in C as F, -40 outside.
