There's no cogent vision to even consider investing in, whether in boutique domestic initiatives vs what I suspect will be the new normal: whack-a-mole shipping diversions to favored country-of-the-week before heading here. But let's say the chaos dies down after 'deals' are made to blunt the worst. When I tell ppl my Tern cost me $3500, they recoil in horror. I don't see how the market grows, even with only modest increases. Then there's the daily 'nobody likes EV anymore' in my feed.

To the question posed: I see a dampening of the Euro ebike market just on the talk of recession alone. But I also see the brands as rational actors who will exit if it's not working for them. It's not "Trump's world, and we just live in it." I'd argue that NATO is dead, and perception of the stability of the US market has changed.

Well height is still feet and inches and weight in stone for me - not sure about how younger kids measure it these days. Road bikes metric or that weird old French bike tyre measurement (700c 650b or 650c etc) and MTB being American in origin is in inches 26er 29er etc. It's a total lovely very human hotchpotch mess of a complete mixture yet we seem to muddle along nicely. I'm constantly googling bike weights from kg into lbs for instance.

I have 2 sets of wrenches. If one feels loose in fit, I grab the other set and see if one fits better; I realize that is an inconvenience, but I waste more than 14 seconds doing other things.

That's ideologically acceptable... But history has proven time and time again that regulations are a necessary evil. Greed alway wins out over decency. I thank God that for the most part the days of sweatshops, ramped toxic dumping and alike are not the norm. Most all regulations were passed to solve an existing issue and not preemptive.
The government push towards renewable, recycling and medical advances would never happen at a meaningful rate if not for regulation and incentive.
If this totally ignorant approach of just cutting for the sake of doing so continues... we are headed for a very ugly place.
The good ol' days only remember the selective good.

622 mm in ETRTO always means the same rim diameter. If you say 47-622 then it belongs to 28" sizes. If you, however, say 55-622, it becomes a twenty-niner. Why use confusing and obsolete systems?

I have some nice mini split HVAC and it was nice getting a tax break on them making the more expensive units affordable. The government's return is less stress on the inadequate electrical grid which cost so much more to make more robust.
Just one simple example of how it's often a win - win.

Although I disagree with incentives, I take advantage of them. Would have put solar on my van even without tax credit. Makes complete sense to buy $400 worth of panels and get 30% tax credit on the ~$5000 worth of system.

Added: if something is a good idea, shouldn't need a government bribe to do it.

You speak as if everyone has the same responsibilities and/or hardship.
And if something is a win - win it's hardly a bribe... It's simply a good idea.
Every compromise for the good of the many is a good idea as all benefit from everyone doing better in the end.

I didn't read this whole thread but how are companies like Lectric keeping prices low while Aventon bumps up prices every year (and R1U just announced price increases but they actually lowered prices last year)?

Cost of goods increases matter for marginal profit type items so not sure what type of markup there is in ebikes?

A friend has stuff made oversees for 75c and sells them for $20 so even a 200% increase can be absorbed or even passed on as a new $22 price.

So it really depends on what the wholesale cost is on these ebikes.

Meanwhile, small plane pilots still argue about whether to use nautical miles and knots (which has advantages in navigation planning) or statute miles and mph (which makes explaining things to nonpilots easier).

Most of the old measurements are based on powers or fractions of two (half inch, quarter inch, eighth inch, etc.). The metric system (and all of mathematics) would work a lot better if humans had 8 instead of 10 fingers and toes.
