Why is Slime a problem

When I spoke to customer service I mentioned that I was considering using slime in the tires of the bike. I was told that would void the warranty. I just don’t understand what kind of problem it would be. Are bike tires warrantied by Aventon or the tire manufacture?

Sounds like more FUD from the bike companies... they do not warranty the tires on your bike, they are a wear item.

I stopped listening to the "experts" on this topic a few years ago. I don't regret the move one little bit.

So if I add a Suntour seatpost and fry my controller, I have voided my warranty?
When making a claim, you're absolutely crazy to tell tech support about all your mods (assuming you have them). Kinda like a RAD bike with a Bolton hop up kit. You talk to RAD about issues OTHER than the hop up kit, and Bolton about stuff included in his kit.

I guess there's similar wording in every bike company policy; my local Giant retail store sell 4 different kinds of tyre sealant - now you can bet that is someone wants to buy some to convert to tubeless or to put into tubes they don;t say " no sorry, thats only for these bike models.."

Its somewhat pedantic, you'll have no issues using Slime - adding it to the tyres adds rotational weight of course, but heck thats nothing compared to dealing with a 120Kg rider over a 80Kg one

Even though I know how to fix a flat I’d rather not as they always happen at the wrong time. I ordered a bootle of Flat Attack it’s similar to slime and some say better, I will also pack a spare tube just in case.

Nonsense warranty policy.

Slime with tubes worked very well for me, I even saw it working several times. You should use it on tubes matching or over the tire (for example using a tube rated for 700x45mm max on a 50 mm tire will make it much less effective , better to go for a tube made for 50+mm tires)size otherwise it won't work well.

If a bike maker gets a reputation for nit picking on their warranty, it's time to shop for another brand. These bikes are expensive and customers shouldn't have to worry about voiding a warranty every time they do minor repairs on their bike. There are other companies out there that bend over backward to see that their customers are satisfied.

For example, when I changed the handlebars on my Pedego Interceptor and added a stem riser, I accidentally broke the throttle cable connector. Since it was my own fault, I called and explained the situation, fully expecting to pay for a replacement. Instead, Pedego sent me a new throttle at no charge even thought I had violated the warranty agreement. Additionally, the two year warranty on the bike had expired 3 months earlier!

It should also be noted that Pedego shipped this bike with Slime filled tubes.

two things to remember with sealants is the lifespan and the temperature range they work in. Some sealants have six month lifespan , others longer. Lifespan is affected by temperatures , so make sure you have something suitable to your locality. If you store the bike over winter you may find come spring the sealant needs to be replaced, don’t assume it’s still good due to lack of use.

Some issues with the authorities there ? Disregarding Covid mandates too ?
