Walk-along mode – Juggernaut Ultra

We bike on old logging roads with deep deactivation ditches. Some are so rough that we have to get off and push our bikes or risk a spill. In other spots the brush is so thick, we have to walk the bikes or get slapped by alder branches. In the past, we had difficulty pushing our mountain bikes through the deactivations and they are half the weight of our new Ultras. There is no way that I can push the Ultra up a steep muddy slope at a walk without some power. Yes the Ultra has the thumb throttle but we have found it to be too touchy – especially when you have poor footing and steep ground. When you ride, the thumb throttle is perfect but when you are walking alongside the bike, the throttle wants to speed the bike out of your hands. The best of all worlds would be a Juggernaut Ultra with a walk-along mode that powers the rear wheel at walking speed, a constant 4km/hr.

See below - we have walk mode!

My Juggernaut has the Bafang BBS02 with the older C965 Display. I have never used this mode, but in the C965 documentation, it says:

7.5 6km walk
Press and hold DOWN button for 1 second can get into walking mode, out of the mode when release the button.

Not sure if this is avail on the Bafang Ultra and the display that comes with it.

Roshan – can you program that? How about a simple on-off switch on the right side of the handlebar that temporarily converts the thumb throttle on the left to walk-along mode. Then no matter how hard you push the thumb throttle, it stays at walk-along speed. That way there is no chance for the bike to accelerate away from the rider walking alongside. Flip the switch and the throttle goes back to normal. You could add a switch function to the controller but I don’t want to fiddle with electronics when I am standing in mud and rocks at the bottom of a ditch – better to keep it simple with a on-off switch.

I'm guessing you saw how to enable Walk Mode in the controller manual you posted in the other thread.

I tried the walk mode on a steep grassy pitch in our yard. The Ultra walked right up no problem and the motor showed no signs of slowing. The slope measured 35 degrees ( 70% grade). That's steep enough that I may want to walk alongside the Ultra coming down rather than riding and possibly going over the handlebars with hard braking. So getting down a slope may be more difficult than getting up. Excellent!
