The tail of two sprockets....

Oh hi,

Below are two drive sprockets with 600 miles on them from Bosch Gen 2 motors. My motor is Active line, they other sprocket is from EddieJ who as Performance line.

Quite the difference in wear. Even the splines for mounting on the shaft are rounded.

I conclude three things:

1 Performance line must contribute to wear faster than Active line
2 Eddie is a very aggressive rider in harsh conditions (okay we already knew that)
3 I think I am afraid to ride with Eddie :)

It would be a blast to ride with @EddieJ, I would love to see it! I would only see it at the start, because I could never keep up. His rides may be extreme (a la ex-game extreme), but I bet he has a maintenance regime most of us don't come close to. His riding environment is different than most of us in the US as well, if you've been to the UK you know the rain and mud... Ah, the peat... the peat.

In my youth, I rode like EddieJ in the Canadian Rockies. It was brutal. I still have tires with studs somewhere the garage. I rode a steel bike called a Miyata Ridge Runner. Back in the 80's we would have "rallies" where the winners were the one's who could ride fast down the steep mountain trails. We always had a few dis-located shoulders from guys bouncing of the trails and hitting trees. I was constantly replacing bearings in every part of the bike. Our version of chain suck was the chain wedging in the spokes on the rear wheel or the inner front crank, I guess you just can't avoid it. Wow... I just went down memory lane, funny to read the comments about the style of mtn bikes back then:

But anyway, today it sounds like I would be hanging with @J.R. as we watched Eddie pull away.

Actually, I would not have a problem getting my bike wet/dirty if I where allowed to inspect/replace the bearings on the motor. No user serviceable parts bites again.....
