The Green Room

Hydrogen is closer than you think…it’s needed to store excess green energy as well as be an end user in itself. Rapidly increasing computing power is assisting much wider forays into exotic compounds which is reflective in the ever improving, ever cheaper, solar panels. There is only one drill field in the world presently devoted to producing hydrogen, but one company is exploring for more, and hopefully increasingly idle drill rigs will turn their attention to hydrogen. I believe H will be an important part of ‘all the above’ in nibbling at climate warming. https://www.reuters.com/business/ae...lane-deals-with-icelandair-others-2021-07-13/

Hydrogen at the Olympics…mixed reception
Seems everyone´s worried, but not interested in doing the heavy lifting. Russia´s having
worse wild fires than here. It´s going to get worse b4 we get motivated & by then it may
be too late. At least some countries are adopting slow moving, non-ICE infrastructure.
We were promised an infrastructure plan for 4 yrs, and now that we have one, those who
promised are doing their damnedest to stop it. So far that plan is really just business as
usual anyway., Contractors, kickbacks, & the same old off-ramps. No one can waste time
& money like the US government! Infrastructure needs to include projects for shading
& greening arid & soil-depleted regions. Cal. needs to chop up all that dry brown grass for
compost so at least some moisture will reach the ground. Where there are 6 lanes of hwy.,
one should be for slo non-ice, two for cargo & mass transit. Bust up the other 3; they´re
just massive heat sinks contributing to the problem. We need to repair watersheds so
badly damaged by deforestation. Give all those Central American climate refugees picks
& shovels & turn ´em loose on soil erosion & planting so those of us who don´t like getting
hands dirty can continue debate in D.C. I´m mad as hell!🤬

Wait ,I´m not finished! There is a better way to manage flood plains via gated levees leading to
mixed agriculture & channels. Such as system can not only make produce, but also farm fish.
We have to get a handle on garbage; recycle ain´t cutting it!!! Containers need to be standardized
& reuseable! Deposits on it all! Clear cuts must be replanted with fast growing construction grade
bamboo if thereś to be any hope of restoring damaged watersheds. Desalinization is a must to
provide water necessary for regrowth. We are going to have to make a lot of sacrifices; there´s
no other option.....& Finally, we need to work with China & Russia & abandon the communist
bogey man mindset.

Here in Maine they at least outlawed those stupid plastic grocery bags. I've been bringing my own shopping bags for years but now if you don't you have to use paper at .05 a pop.

I first learned about climate change fro an into Geology class in 1970. Here’s what the research said then
And sociologists predicted the “browning of America”. Both concepts revealed the asshats trying to claim the moral high ground based on color and creed. My week at Dewey Canyon III lead me to believe we were moving forward. And then we got a chicken heart POTUS revealing just how ignorant a high percentage of crackers still exist.

Most places in Europe they're 25 euro cents a pop! I carry my own in my suitcase when we travel.

Actually the one use plastic bag industry is doing very well with pandemic profits. Not as well as the big tech companies, but better than they were, and they are fighting hard against reusable shopping bags and recyclable packaging. Think of all those Amazon deliveries...

Herrington has been doing good work.

Yeah, for a while I couldn't even bring my own shopping bags into the stores.

Yeah. I haven't even tried to bring my own bags into the store yet. I have been using the "click and collect " curbside pick up and they pack it in reusable bags. I have a lifetime supply by now ...

I take my own bags and I wash them. The issue with reusable bags is if you don't wash them, they get full of bacteria. There's been a few studies done. One store I shop still offers paper bags at no charge. The food is more expensive though. During the height of the pandemic most store wouldn't allow shoppers to use their own bags. There are no easy, simple answers.

Maybe stores could band together and start a paper bag cooperative. Lose all the branding and advertisements, that would save money. Who in the world reads their grocery bags🤷‍♂️

No advertising? Have you no shame? 😆

This is the real "browning of America":

Looks like Maine is leading on recycling in the USA. Someone has to, b/c this stuff is piling up.

I know the last sentence above will not be easy. Ex-KGB Putin is still in cold war mode, but
we should stop punishing the the Russian people for what he does. Somehow we need to
end the cycle of retaliation that serves neither side. I´ve watched a few Russian cycling videos,
& it seems young Russians, at least, are in pretty much the same place we are on climate.
Yesterday I watched a vid on small town life there. It could have been any small town in the US,
suffering the same sort of decline that´s happening to small towns across the US. It was very
honest with no propaganda whitewash. People around the world are not really so different
at the core. We have to better acquaint ourselves with foreign cultures if we are benefit from
what we have in common & mitigate our differences.

Seemed like the case in the UK and China as well. Normal people seem pretty reasonable, it's only the leaders that are scumbags.
