All right, Ras, I've looked into GasGas more thoroughly.
They have good e-bikes such as ECC6, which is a Brose based Enduro e-MTB with more than decent specs. The Moto 1 is something weird as for them.

Canadian site (no idea why Google wanted me see the Canuck page):

The owner is in Austria, and it is not KTM anymore.
Well I looks like it's even more complicated then that! Looking up Wikipedia; yes Austrian not German, I thought KTM was German got that wrong; so Austrian Stefan Peirer took control of KTM in 92 and after Gas Gas got into difficulty in 2015, KTM bought a controlling stake but then:

In 2023 Pierer Mobility's financial situation became increasingly unsustainable and by 2024 they had a heavy debt to pay off.[34] In 2024 KTM went into self imposed administration.[35] Pierer Mobility was compelled to sell their stake in MV Agusta back to the previous owners the Sardarov family.[36]

In the early 2025 Stefan Pierer started exiting from executives roles in KTM and its affiliates, making way for new investors.[37]

Motorcycles: Bajaj Auto Era [2025 onwards]
In 2025, Bajaj Auto, who were until now holding 49% stake in Pierer Mobility had offerred to take full control of KTM and its sister concerns by an 800 million Euro debt package. The deal was concluded in November 2025. Pierer Mobility is due to be rennamed as Bajaj Mobility which will hold 74.94% shares in KTM; rest of which lies in public hands.

So both KTM and Gas Gas now owned by Bajaj Auto a huge Indian auto manufacturing company. Typical corporate 'take over on takeovers on takeovers' deal.

Hard to keep up! The inter web is such a time waster...

Thank you for your research, Ras!
One of my friends, a Vado SL rider, told me he was looking for some special bike as a 50-yo gift for himself. He was first thinking of yet another e-bike then of a pedal bike, perhaps titanium (you know how it goes for quinquagenarians) :) Of course the man still doesn't know what he wants but at some point he mentioned a KTM. I wrote him: "Come on... A motorcycle company bike product?" I think he accepted my comment easily. (Am sure he will end up with a TREK gravel bike. Why? No idea!)

I think during and before Covid, ebikes were seen as the business to be in $$$$$ so everyone got into ebikes. Makes business sense. Now after 3 bad years and no signs internationally of the world magically improving that number has slimmed back down. Will we be looking at the same 'big four' in a few years time, Giant, Trek, Specialized and Cannondale? Or will they be swallowed up by bigger fish from outside bikes and end up be a sticker on a heavily discounted anonymous bike?

What's interesting to me about that Gas Gas story is how in 1985 they represented a new young exciting motorbike brand (The name is a shortened saying in Spanish "‘Vamos! Gas a fondo... gas gaaas!!!’ which translates to ‘C’mon, give it full gas!!!) meant to be an exciting and new fun motorbike Trials company (both partners worked for Bultaco the now defunct Catalonian Trials bike kings). So many times we see that in small companies, passion and creativity then growth then a sale either because they are offered loads of cash or in trouble. But sold without the original minds behind it. That never makes sense to me. And too often the sold brand goes quickly downhill.

It's been raining all day here and I'm not getting much done except discovering the rise and fall of an obscure Spanish bike brand. Hope this question comes up if I'm ever on Who Wants To Be A Millionaire because its just going to rattle around in my brain forever now and I'll probably end up muttering something about Gas Gas on my death bed mystifying my children for decades.
