Photos from my first 2 coast rides after 26 days off the bike due to a difficult saddle rash. Glad it's behind me. (Ball's in your court, @DaveMatthews.)

What a relief to be riding again — especially with the Pacific in full view in glorious September weather! Made me realize just how much my overall well-being depends on riding nowadays.

Carlsbad City Beach on a September weekday with kids back in school and the tourists largely gone. @stompandgo taught me to call this "locals season" — in my book, the best time of year here.

Carlsbad State Beach just to the south. Jury's still out on the new blue MTB grips comfort-wise, but I'm enjoying the new look.

Carlsbad Village during the Wednesday farmer's market. Great people watching. The crouton guy said he expects to have the world completely saved by 2037.

Looking NW from the bluff above south Tamarack Beach with an exceptionally sharp silhouette of Saddleback Ridge on the skyline.

From the bluff above north Swami's Beach.You know it's a clear day when the deep blue of the ocean goes all the way to a razor-sharp horizon, undiluted by water vapor gray.

Reminded once again of my good fortune to be able to ride these places right from my house.

It’s from Chicago‘s annual Bike The Drive (Dusable Lake Shore Drive) heading back north just past McCormick Place. The northern and southern loops centered at Grant Park, comprising about 30 miles total. We only did the southern loop which turned around at the Museum of Science & Industry in Hyde Park, about 16 miles.

A couple shots from my rides a few weeks ago during a visit to Michigan.

They take their dirt roads - sorry, Natural Beauty Roads - seriously.

I waited on the shoulder while they finished grooming the road. Presumably, they had heard I was in the area and would be borrowing my in-law's bike for a rideabout.

Freshly groomed. It was actually tough sledding on the hills with skinny road bike tires.

The night I had to return the bike. It was too nice out not to take a quick spin.

It was actually a Turkey Vulture eating a Racoon, but I was kinda feelin hungry.

Where in MI? I keep wanting to get back to Michigan for a visit and do the DALMAC ride but haven't gotten around to it. 2300 mile drive to get to East Lansing starting point sort of puts me off.

We split time between Grand Rapids and East Lansing area while there. I usually get 1 morning in each area for a good 2-3 hr ride, and then maybe one or two 60-90 minute rides before the family gets going in the mornings. The dirt road was east of Grand Rapids(Egypt Valley I think?), the farm picture is in Haslett maybe 5-10 miles east of MSU campus.

I think we left MI the same morning that DALMAC started this year.

A rare ride for me since it went as planned! From San Gregorio General Store (started with a breakfast sando) just down Best Road through Pescadero, and checked out Costanoa for the first time and their General Store! Added quick stop Ano Nuevo State Park for the coastal beauty (no riding there though) 35mi, 2700ft.

Spent my High School years body surfing and skim boarding on those beaches. That area has special significance for me.

From San Gregorio General Store (started with a breakfast sando) just down Best Road through Pescadero, and checked out Costanoa for the first time and their General Store! Added quick stop Ano Nuevo State Park for the coastal beauty (no riding there though) 35mi, 2700ft.

Lots of good memories in those photos for me, too. San Gregorio was my favorite Bay Area beach. Wonderful ride!

I have to add something about my ride today, I noticed something a little different today...
Quite a few motorcycle riders waved or signaled. All sorts of bikes...from adventure bikes to cruisers. I started at San Gregorio so there were a bunch of bikes parked there of course. FWIW I was riding solo.
I never rode my motos on these roads, I just didn't know about them. I only had about 10yrs (VFR 700, SV650) I mostly rode north on HWY 1 or Clearlake Sonoma area when I lived in SF. I was a member of BARF. I led a few group rides too. I did go south but HWY 9 was too crazy for me.
So today it was very cool to experience.
I threw down the two fingers when I could as well. But only as a response.
I miss riding but it is too crazy out on the road (for me).

Well you likely rode this more than I have. but I am catching up on pedal bikes. Today, I ended up listening to the band at the general store after my ride. it is the social epicenter of San Gregorio. Cowboys, riders, farmers, etc. so unique. This photo I took as I started my ride at noon. a few motos, which were replaced when I returned by more motos and some modelT hot rod.

Another commute to the office today. No ride on the weekend much to my dismay, but hey... we can compensate!
Getting a bit cooler in the morning and headed out at 13C in the sunshine.
My route initially takes me through a local school area, which at my entrance is an elementary school, and the other end is a high school.
They share these common newly redone fields...



After that just a serene sunny cool morning...



And I get to avoid this mess...



But had to wait at this mess for cars to pass first because...

Same route on the way home except I picked up some "supplies"...
