Inland hill rides of ~20 mi at ~60 ft/mi are pretty common for me. For some reason, today's really wore me out.
The only non-traffic stop came at the low point (~20 ft ASL) overlooking a large horse property on the sandy flood plain on the NE shore of Bataquitos lagoon. The ocean's about a mile to the right of the distant ridge.
A better look at the setting from an earlier ride, here to the ESE. Many lavish horse properties 5-10 miles farther inland in the ultra-posh Rancho Santa Fe area but no others this close to the coast.
You'd probably have to look back from across the lagoon to see the main house, which must be a doozy with a commanding view from well above the flood plain. From this side, all you see is the gate.
Lots of Cape honeysuckle along the road here. Along with blue plumbago, one of my favorite local flowering shrubs.
If you're a fan of orange like me, this one's hard to beat.
