Show us pictures of where you ride your ebikes!

Yesterday my knee felt good enough to get back on the steed for a test run. Still hurt a bit but whatevs...
Also wanted to try out the new lid and it was a nice day after 2 days of rain, so...

Wandered down to the entrance to the Delta greenway and headed in...

Hmmm... looks like the wind must have blown some small trees down, so I pulled most of it off the trail...

Nope... not gonna fight with this one, so lifted the bike over it and carried on...

Until this. A hiker had told me the trail was flooded (he had plastic bags on his feet!), and he was NOT kidding. I was not feeling up to testing this out, so turned around...

Major construction in the area...

Then today with the knee feeling almost 100% I went out for another shorty.
Memories...

If you zoom in on this pic you'll see the name of the company on the van is "Neat Gardening" Bwahahahaha...

Anyway, I feel like the crash is behind me now. Also, last three rides have totaled a little over 102kms on one charge with 36% still left in the tank. That is pretty good IMHO...

Blij dat je uitstapt voor wat ritjes. Sorry om te horen van uw tinnitus, maar hopelijk kan het worden beheerd.

Rode The Grand Climb near Castlegar. 750 meters in about 7 km. Lots of switchbacks too.
Hard to see the switchbacks but they are really challenging up or down.

Had too much to do yesterday to get out for a ride, even though weather was very good.
Today though was was easier to get out after some grocery shopping. The weather was even nicer than yesterday at 17C so no way did I want to miss out.

Heading south for a typical Mud Bay run...

I was anticipating that the three large puddles had turned into one long deep lake, but the first one looked manageable, so I went for it even though someone had written on the sign that it was "axle deep" later...

Second one looked OK as well...

But then... Nope... this one must be the axle deep one, and I was NOT interested in testing the theory after recent rains...

Turned around and went up 64th to Watershed Park...

What a fantastic day for a ride...

Stop for water...

Posing outside the rink...

Best Dave,
groet, Rien

Dat ziet er prachtig uit! 65ms is inderdaad een goede rit, mooi gedaan meneer. Ik wed dat je inderdaad goed geslapen hebt.

October's my favorite month here in coastal north San Diego County — shirt-sleeve temperatures, gentle breezes, few clouds, and crystal-clear air with razor-sharp horizons. Below are typical October scenes from coast rides in the last 5 days.

20241020_164707.jpg
20241020_164652.jpg

From yesterday, looking south, then north from the high bluff above Swami's Beach — among surfers, a world-class reef break.

20241014_145732.jpg
20241010_165122.jpg

From the day before, looking south, then north from the bluff above South Carlsbad State Beach.

20241010_165223.jpg

Same bluff, 2 days earlier. Sat in the closest chair and communed with the Pacific a good half-hour that day before getting back on the Coast Highway.

20241013_155541.jpg
20241013_155529.jpg

And from the day before that, looking south, then north at North Ponto Beach. Beach goers are mostly locals this time of year. Surf and sand on a glorious October day — doesn't get much better than that!

20241011_135610.jpg

Relished these sunny coast rides all the more after the preceeding 2 weeks of unrelenting gloom, with totally unseasonal low cloud decks, haze, and fog hiding the ocean the whole time. This was the doing of a soupy marine air layer pulled onshore by a persistent heatwave affecting much of the US Southwest at the time, eastern SoCal included.

20240915_162850.jpg

Vado SL assist on the last 2 coast rides ran about 80% OFF, 10% ECO, and 10% SPORT — the last mainly for traffic and some short, steep hills. As other SL members keep saying, the bike's a pleasure with the motor off in this kind of rolling terrain. And that makes its small 320 Wh battery much less an issue.

We are settled into our new retirement place. We bought a trailer in a nice park. Our grandkids and downtown Sealy Tx are all within riding distance of the e- boomer trike. Nice concrete frontage road on a less crowded stretch of I10 and paved county roads make it easy to get around. The State park is close enough to ride to, but I trailer instead of riding a three wheeler on a two lane road without shoulders. My granddaughter goes with me sometimes. Retirement is good so far.

It's been fun riding the Vado SL in its Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) livery over the last 2 days.

Skulls (calaveras) and skull masks play a central role in Day of the Dead imagery. Picked up this typical mask in Old Town San Diego yesterday just for the bike. (See below.)

Little bluff-top park overlooking Moonlight Beach on this fine October day. Garlands of marigolds also figure prominently in Day of the Dead decorations. The bike's Brassy Yellow paint is a pretty good match.

Encinitas has a public beach overlook at the west end of nearly every downtown street with a letter name. This is D Street's.

Hats off to the wife for knowing a good idea when she hears one. Historic Old Town San Diego is gearing up for its huge Day of the Dead celebration on November 1-3.

IMG_1798.jpg

She heard a local newscaster suggest that if you'd like to take in the colorful decorations without the crowds, go a day or two early. So yesterday we jumped on the train and did just that.

More scenes from Old Town yesterday...

Plan to throw the bike on the train one day soon to explore this area more thoroughly.

I think Tim Burton took a lot of inspiration from traditional Day of the Dead artwork. So did my wife's Halloween pumpkin painting.

Careful that your wife doesn't catch you with your new girlfriend Jeremy 😉

Well it's been over two weeks...
Weather and other distractions have kept me off the bike. Last time out was gorgeous weather but today was quite cool at 10C and rather cloudy.
I felt rather out of shape (only cuz it's true) and had to convince myself to get out after grocery shopping.
So... did the triple layers and full finger gloves. Left the tires a little squishy because I expected the trails to be a bit of a slippery mess after all of the rain.
Headed out for a Mud Bay run just to get 20+ kms in.

Lookin' good...

The tide is finally in!

Didn't get a pic of the trail back through Watershed Park, but dayum... I got showered with muddy water (yes, that's a music reference)...
Glad I did it. Need some more...

Today's local ride took me to a vantage point (yellow arrow below) with a good view of the big rail bridge replacement project at nearby Bataquitos Lagoon.

20241105_224024.jpg

This older east-looking aerial photo of the lagoon (nicked from a project brochure) shows the rail bridge at center, the San Diego Freeway (I-5) crossing behind it, and the Coast Highway and South Ponto Beach in the foreground. These landmarks come up a lot in my posts.

20241105_155101.jpg

20241105_155223.jpg

The 80 year-old single-track wooden rail trestle is being replaced with a double-track concrete bridge designed to improve regional rail service and tidal flushing of the lagoon at the same time. (Please excuse the blur in the 2nd photo above. Dropped my phone a while back, and the telephoto camera's focus has never been the same.)

20241105_155315.jpg

Vantage on the sandy dirt rail trail on the bluff above the lagoon's north shore.

20240915_155551.jpg

The lagoon and its flanking salt marshes make up a heavily protected wildlife preserve with a tempting network of lagoon-level nature trails closed to all bicyles. On this day, I got to watch a kingfisher doing pelican-like dives into the water from its perch on a high powerline crossing the lagoon just off to the right.

20241105_155112.jpg
20241105_155114.jpg
20241105_155115.jpg

A southbound COASTER (regional commuter train) happened to speed by as I was about to leave.

This track belongs to the LOSSAN passenger and freight rail corridor connecting San Diego, Los Angeles, and San Luis Obispo. The LOSSAN is the 2nd busiest intercity line in the US. The Surf Line segment through San Diego County crosses half a dozen lagoons and rivers as it hugs the coast. All single-track rail bridges involved will eventually be replaced.

Jeremy,
groeten

Thanks! Yes, we're lucky to have good cycling weather year round. Hope you find a way around your cervical spine issues. I can relate: My butt limits rides on my old upright ebike to around 40 km. On the new, less upright ebike pictured above, the limiting factor will likely be my stiff old neck at around 50 km.
