Fall has hit with a vengeance here is the Pacific Northwest. Nevertheless I have been taking every opportunity to ride that I can, getting in over 700 miles last month and 420 miles thus far in October.

Despite all the blustery weather we have had some spectacular sunsets lately. These shot were taken from our front porch over the last two weeks.

Amazing photos :)

I went for a ride today after the rain abated and I managed an enjoyable 41 miles and avoided the rain that was trying its hardest to rein me in so to speak ;) I won today, the rain will probably win tomorrow now :p This was my 99th ride on my amazing Giant Road E+1 Pro which now has a total mileage of 5,901 miles (an average of 59.6 miles) and it still rides like new, I just love it :D It would have been awesome to do a 100 miler tomorrow for my 100th ride but looking at the forecast I will do well to get a 50 miler in before the heavy rain will hit! My 2019 total is now 2,972.5 miles so I should pass 3,000 miles tomorrow! No photos today but hopefully I will get some tomorrow!

E bike ride no 100 today and although I would have liked to do a 100 miler I was happy to get 63.5 miles done before the rain came :D So 100km on my 100th ride and it was a very hilly one with 4,439ft of climbing, my total mileage is now 5,965 miles in 19 months and my 2019 total now stands at 3,036 miles!

Last year I completed 3,270 miles so I am on course to better that by some distance providing the weather holds out! We have had a spell of very windy weather recently but thankfully today I was greeted by a 5mph easterly which made my ride so much more fun, I just love riding in Autumn (Fall), the colours are spectacular :)

I've been suffering from a diminishment of mojo lately, the last two months since I took off a couple of weeks due to some family travel and events. Shorter and fewer rides, and it occurred to me that I'm just basically a bit bored after about 10,000 miles of largely the same ten or so routes (my riding is 100% recreational and 98% solo).

So I decided to play Try Your Luck this morning with posted routes on Ride With GPS and called up rides within 25 miles including the word "gravel"... the whole reason I bought my Giant ToughRoad earlier this year. Lo and behold, it spat out a short 20 mile ride over near the Vermont border and a tiny bit north of here that turned out to be terrific! It was all Washington County farmland and woods, and nearly half of it either dirt or gravel roads that sometimes were barely a lane and a half wide, up and down all over the place, and I had never seen a single inch of it before.

So that's more like it! Bike felt great, the sun was shining, leaves still changing color although getting a little thin on the trees now. Every time I rounded a corner in the woods and saw another hill coming I felt great, charged right up the things. One dog chase who turned out to just be saying hello, which was good since it was an uphill event.

How do you high mile guys - not commuters who have to do it, but rec riders - keep it going year after year? I'm looking at you, Alaskan! This was a breath of fresh air, and I am now peeking over a teeny bit further into Vermont for new inspiration.

After surviving a heart attack with odds of survival being close to zero, I wake up each morning still mindfully grateful to be alive. I also have great gratitude that my body has been able to recover and come back to a fair semblance of fitness and vitality. So basically events continue to give me a welcome push forward rather than relying on draw of adventure (a most welcome side benefit). Plus wherever I ride around here I get these awesome views of Mt. Baker, the North Cascades and the San Juan Islands.

50 mile ride yesterday with my colorful companions. We call ourselves the Neon Oldies. Foliage in Northeastern Connecticut is at about peak. We spent about 6 total hours riding and taking photos. A full thermos of good coffee and snacks kept us warm and energized. Fun ride.

New adventures on an ebike.
It doesn’t get any better than that!

At least it's a curvy road so you don't have to actually see how far to the top but it's a bit of climb just to get there and still more climbing to get to the point where it's mostly downhill back to home. The first time riding it I hit it a little too hard and had to stop for a breather 3/4 of the way up.

This is the profile of the full 7.5 mile round trip, mostly streets.

I find motivation in small things. Recently I tightened the drive bolts and changed the entire drive train (cassette, chain, front chainrings). The bike feels new and is a joy to ride. I’ve also found motivation by exploring new paths. Switzerland has an absolute labyrinth of them and you will often see no cars. I’m sure if some of you saw where I’m riding you’d think it’s paradise. The sense of security I have on many of the paths I’m riding is simply amazing. And I’ve got a majestic view of the Alps. It just never seems to get old.
I agree about exploring new paths, I have been cycling for over 50 years and I can still find roads locally I have never ridden before! I live in a small country but I keep finding new gems all the time :D

Smelling where I rode yesterday would be appropriate. No pictures. The fruit orchards are using cow manure to fertilize, the pot farms are ripe and smelly. No sweet alfalfa smells this time of year.
