REVIEW: QR-E 250W ELECTRIC BOOSTER BICYCLE MOTOR AND B60i AND B70 BATTERY

You can contact Qiroll with questions directly through their site. I had asked a question pre-sale and one post sale and both were answered.
I might reconsider a Qiroll Pro if they come up with a "flex" version that I could use with the 36v or 48v batteries that I already have, would depend on price as it'd still be an unknown regarding performance.
I've emailed them, and I've gotten no response, which might tell me something.

Edit: They responded!

Any luck getting it working and stable?
I took the Qiroll off my Bike Friday and am waiting to install it on my Birdy folder. It needs some extra long metric M5 bolts to mount the motor. I ordered it from Amazon but it's taking longer to get to me. My Bike Friday has the dropbar with Shimano 105 shifters. The S2 switch just doesn't work well on dropbars. I can't find a comfortable spot on the bars without my fingers getting tired. It should work better on the Birdy with the flat bar.

I'll report back in a week or so with the result. I'm on the North East so the weather is getting colder very day.

I hope they arrive on time for you. Did you get the tape issue figured out?

Jason from Qiroll replied to me about the flex battery compatibility with a third party battery. I'm asking him a couple more questions, but it's promising. That can make or break a sale, whether or not someone responds to me with support. The more I research options, the more the Qiroll might be worth the risk. As I go down the ebike research rabbit hole it looks to be more expensive, more hefty, and more hassle than risking it with this QiRoll to see what I can get out of it.

By the way, what do you think of this Amazon alternative?

It supports any 48v battery, the throttle physically engages and disengages the device. And it's bi-directional.

But there is no official company website or support so all that is through Amazon Prime.

Only reviews are the two on Amazon, give it a try and let us know how it goes. One seller on Ebay lists at $214 with free shipping from China.

Amazon prime would be the only reason to even try it. Finding a safe and suitable battery would be the main challenge. I like the water bottle form factor type. Is the qiroll battery lightweight?

My B70 battery weighs 1kg which is commensurate with its capacity. Weights are listed on the Qiroll site, I've found them to be accurate for what I purchased.

The more I research alternatives down this rabbit hole, including mid-drive, hub, different friction brands, etc, the more likely I'm going to get the qiroll.

Thq question is to get the Pro or the Flex version and stock up on batteries like these.

The Pro has more power and regen braking, but the Flex's ability to run any 36V is appealing because those can be gotten anywhere with large capacities.

I have the flex ordered and plan to use my 250whr 37v batteries I currently use as range extenders on my mid drive shimano steps syestm. The batteries are from Full Battery, use good cells and provide good range. I ordered a coupe of weeks ago but isn't expected to arive in San Diego till Dec 3-5th.

My bike is a cross country mountain bike with 26 inch wheels that tips the scales at 17lbs. I'm hoping the flex with provide me with enough power with the light weight and pedal assist to make it over hills but know emgx had issues with his mute and don't think the flex has any advantages comparitively. My hills are more like 8-10% in San Diego.

My goal is to be able to free wheel as easy as possible and don't quite understand the system yet as I've never seen it. Seems like from what I gather from the post here that I will have to dismount to deactivate. Jason didn't seem to think there was very much resistance when on the tire but not under power. What has your experience been?

What made you decide on the Flex vs the Pro? Is the lower wattage an advantage or a disadvantage? Did you order directly or through eBay? It says on their website 7 to 10 business days via FedEx. Is that inaccurate?

Interesting that Shimano Steps will work on batteries without data ports to communicate with the Shimano controller. Is this the battery? Light and small.

You do have to stop to disengage the Qiroll from the wheel. It keeps running in the "electronic clutch" mode until you've slowed down to near stop - then you use the thumb screw to back the motor off of the wheel. Due to the electronic clutch there is some assist even if you don't actuate the motor as it kicks in as soon as you get above a few mph as long as the battery is plugged in. If you don't mind post pictures of the bike you are intending to use it on, 17# is impressive for a non-carbon bike.

From what I’m reading, the Pro version will utilize regen to take advantage of constantly being physically attached but the Mute or Flex versions will not.

Also, the Pro version is recommended over the Mute or Flex for any potential hill climbing assistance.

Please correct me if I’m wrong if wrong.

Yes and no. My Mute Plus does have working regen and while it doesn't gain charge or slow the bike much it is slightly noticeable on long downhill runs. Both of the buttons have to be pushed and held at the same time to activate regen. Regen (and the associated braking) is supposed to be more robust on the Pro. The Mute Plus can also be mounted in reverse like the Pro. You'd have to ask Jason for particulars. I'd like to be able to compare the Mute with the Pro, the OP in this thread did comment some in this regard.

Is the Flex more downgraded than the Mute Plus? Or is it the same as the Mute Plus?
You mention, "While it doesn't gain charge or slow the bike much, it is slightly noticeable on long downhill runs."

So is the regen working as a 'brake' but not as an actual 'regen?'

Sorry, I know I'm full of questions, but I'm trying to decide which model is the most ideal to get.

I'm deciding between Flex and getting a couple of these: https://www.affordableebikes.ca/products/36v-12-8ah-eco-pack-used-tested
Or going all out and getting the Pro. If the Flex is similar to Mute Plus, it's more appealing.

The Mute Plus does have regen, it just isn't much, when it's activated regen slows the bike to a small degree. No idea regarding the Flex version and I can't comment on performance with the Pro other than what I've read as I've never used one. You're probably better off directly asking Jason some of these questions as he should know and give you more definitive answers.

I'll ask him and share what he said here.

Also, just wondering. Can you tell if the regen is truly working? Have you measured before/after voltage, etc.?

Hi,
Sorry for not being here in this forum. Btw for hills PRO is a winner, but you'll have to ditch the manufacturer friction tape and go for those DIY mods using 3M industrial floor grip tape on the friction drive roller else you will loose around 30% torque power slipping all the going way up the hill while pedaling and pushing the button.

As for regen; you'll get more benefit when going through 'long' down hill while use brake regen button just to get ample amount of recharging on the battery but not so much for use to slow down on flat traffic. I never bother to use it because everytime i press that regen/brake button it instead accidentally switch from boost mode to eco when my intention to 'regen brake' it. Anyways don't use as a to brake my bike to stop.
