So true! I can see the aesthetic appeal of batteries that fit entirely within the frame, & those batteries which don't fit inside almost might as well be externally mounted like shark packs & triangle packs... but for those of us who like the easy drop-in of the Dorado packs & already own some frames using that mounting method, the decline in new bikes using that mounting method tragically means we are less likely to see newer bigger packs for the ebikes we've already got!
ProphetZarqon, ovt, and tomjasz:
You each have hit the nail right on the head when it comes to the Reention Dorado battery casing for ebike usage.
However, there is now a “
ReentionDorado battery purchaser beware” factor to deal with. It involves this company:
WIREDebikes
https://wiredebikes.com/products/wired-freedom
andit involves this battery set-up (check out the 2023 model AND the 2024 model):
https://wiredebikes.com/pages/battery-collection
I own 6 ebikes, each using the Reention Dorado. I own 11 examples of that style battery in total (see photo). Every battery is usable with all 6 ebikes-- except for the 2 “short” batteries (those are a one-way street, so to speak). I use 48v, 52v, and 60v batteries. Mix-and-match. No problemo. I have never had to even form a thought about compatibility. Until I bought the two 60v/20ah batteries from WIRED in the summer of 2023. The batteries I purchased are “the2023 model”.
So, if you (the viewer) already own a Reention Dorado battery casing ebike, and are thinking about expanding your own ebike posse, be forewarned that the
2024 WIRED ebike/battery set-up will
NOT be compatible with your own not-a-WIRED ebike, nor it's battery.
Why companies do this sort of “proprietary usage”
crap is beyond me. All I want is a (+) and a (-) on the connector. Either the battery works.. or it doesn't. So, before you go spending $2,000+ on a new ebike, or $800.00 on a new battery, do your homework BigTime. No Refunds, ya know.
By the way, in the photo there is a cardboard box. It contains a brand new 48v/20ah battery that came with my 2023 M2S(brand) AllTerrainCargo(model) ebike, as delivered on Oct 20,2023(3 months ago). I see no reason to open/use it for the time being.
The 5 batteries pictured on the right side of the box are now currently in use/rotation. 2 of them are 3+ years old, so their “expiration” date/time is probably only a few months away. The 5 batteries on the left(Trust No One, etc) of the box have already “expired”. I just keep them around because I can.
