I've messaged the Admin to create a Pinarello subforum in the brands section. No response as yet, so this will have to do for now. If one gets created, I'll start a new thread there.

Pinarello e-bikes are called Nytro. Currently, they all use the TQ HPR50 mid drive unit. They offer this line for road and gravel, plus they have a single urban flat bar bike called the E5 Allroad that's based on the Grevil E5 frame. Pinarello has decided to cease distribution of this bike in the US, so they are on closeout. I work for a Pinarello dealer, so I was able to create a package deal, directly with the Pinarello rep, that I could not refuse.

The package includes one range extender and the TQ service dongle. I'm buying it in the box and I'll do all the assembly myself.

Congratulations!
  • Weight?
  • Main battery capacity?
  • RE capacity?
Later please tell me how well LEV ANT+ works there!

Weight is supposed to be around 11kg (25#) in a 530, but I'll have a 550, so a little more. The DU is a TQ-HPR50. The main battery is an integrated 360Wh. The range extender is a bottle style 160Wh.

The bike is Di2 ready, which is something I will do in the future. It comes with Deore.

Lovely! Cannot wait to read your ride and experience reports! It looks the Pinarello is the superlightweight low power e-bike you have been longing for!

Besides... My Mum spoke Italian, and I have already been to Italy for 4 times (first time in 1974). I have always had an impression Italian was a melodic soft language. However, it must be a regional/accent thing. I could watch several cycling videos involving the Italian. Many of them spoke in a harsh and hard accent! One of the men said PINARELLO as hard as he ruined my impression of Italian being the language of music! :)

"Good morning Italy, spaghetti al dente, a former guerrilla became the Presidente..." At least that guy wasn't disappointing! :)

I looked at it this way. I'm riding a 55# 85Nm 600W peak bike that I really only use Mode 1 (60% assist) and Mode 2 (140% assist). Even if the Nytro weighs 30#, It's a 50Nm 300W peak bike where Mode 1 is 60% assist and Mode 2 is 140% assist, with the ability to tune for both assist level and dynamics. The riding experience will be very different, but I'm hoping that the range will be long enough to minimize riding with the assist off.

The range extender works a little differently than the Bosch system. It depletes the RE first, then the main battery.

Gorgeous & light looking bike! Suspect you'll love the low weight after the 55lbs. Should be able to fly along on the flat with no assist and with a great natural ride feel. Curious to hear your ride reports when you get a feel for it. Congrats.

The only thing I cannot understand is the weight of 11.4 kg (25 lbs) with the rear rack, fenders and the lighting.
  • Marin Headlands 2 (a traditional carbon gravel bike) is 9.6 (21.2 lbs)
  • Kross Esker RS 3.0 (a traditional carbon gravel bike) is 9.2 kg (20.2 lb)
  • Specialized Creo 2 Expert (50 Nm/320 W, 320 Wh carbon gravel e-bike) is 13.96 kg (30 lb)
Pinarello claims the e-bike system alone on Allroad is "only" 4 kg (8.8 lbs). Add the rear rack, fenders and lighting. How could the brand come down to 25 lbs?!

Interesting.

I guess it doesn’t really matter. Maybe draining the smaller battery first helps preserve the main batt. by reducing charge cycles.

[edit: By the way, nice ride, @stompandgo ! ]

I dug deeper, and found that the 25# quote was for an E9, which is a road bike with a lighter frame. Typical crap review site. That would make the E5 frame somewhere around 1# heavier, then add lights, fenders and rack. That was also for a 530, not a 550. I think 30# is in the ballpark. The RE adds 950g, around 2#. My Tesoro with the second battery weighs 62#. If the actual weight is in the ballpark, loaded, it would be about half the weight of the Tesoro. That's what my back of the envelope math is based on.

30 lbs might make sense but I would say closer to 35# (like a carbon Creo with added equipment). I'm very interested what the scales would read.
Whatever, that would be the day vs the night compared to the full power Cannondale. Whenever I carry my full power Vado down the stairs, I always think "how nimble that heavy thing will become once on the wheels". Carrying my Vado SL upstairs is a sheer joy!
