Overheating EBike Motor

My Battribike Quartz electric bike is fitted with a brushed motor and regenerative braking, but the motor often overheats and partly ceases up when worked hard, despite not having travelled excessive mileage. When cooled down again seems OK until the next time. Is this a common problem with this type of outfit and can it be remedied?

Brushed motor with Regen doesn't sound like a good combination, esp if you're going up a lot of hills. That is a fairly inexpensive Chinese bike.

If you're unableto return it easily to your dealer, this is what I would do :

Turn the regenerative MODE to OFF (it doesn really help much)
Set the assist mode to MEDIUM or LOW (esp true if you weigh over 100 kg.); this will reduce the load on the motor/battery.

Thanks for the advice Joe. The new version of this electric bike has a brushless motor without regenerative braking.
