I know you will hate to hear this, but the stealth fighter sounds like a good bike for you. It climbs hills like a charm, it can go 20 miles and around 35 miles per hour. it has 2 internal gears. one for pedaling without power and one for pedaling with power, it has a regen button for the hills. But if that isn't your slice of toast, than I think the grace one or the grace one.15 holds its place up at the top! The grace one is a gearless hub motor, so I wouldn't imagine why you would change gears on a hill unless you wanted to pedal. I like optibike, but you need to constantly work the gears up and down to get the most out of that motor. for cheaper, you can get a stealth that is solid as a rock and faster. If I were ever caught in a trail and in a hurry to get home before dark, the stealth would be my greatest companion. also, it comes to California street legal. they limit it to 20 mph at 750 watts. There is a code you can type in to have access to the full power. if you have a motorcycle license i would imagine you could put a license plate on the back, and run it at full power. The grace is s better choose if you are going to want a more bike-looking electric bike, that has a beautiful pinion transmission and belt drive. not to mention how awesome that horn is. it's actually really loud in the reviews of it. I just find the headlight box a little ugly up front.
I guess you have to try both. What battery chemistry does the Stealth Fighter use?

according to online sources lifepo4. a fairly new battery chemistry, but should be pretty good.
75 pound bike with 20Ah battery. I wonder how much the battery weighs? I believe phosphate is the least desirable for this type of bike. 20 pounds could be battery alone.

I would like to see the weight drop down to the 60 pound range. The HPC NMC 26Ah battery weighs 24 pounds. About 1 pound per Ah.

I've got a mountain lion that goes through my backyard every once in a while. it is a beautiful cat. very lean, with short shiny hairs.
Have you considered installing a trail camera? Nat. Geo. and Capella's have some reasonably priced ones. I plan to install a camera. My friend who lives next to the trail bought one. I have not figured out how many to buy. I think I will start with infrared scope or binoculars to locate the den. I know the city needs to remove the big dumpster because it atracks prey. The lion likes to hang out there.

true, but the hpc bike is a normal bike with motor and battery attached. They hold the batteries in a bag, which reduces the need for a custom frame, but think about putting that force on a standard bike frame. the manufacture of the bike probably didn't intend for this to be used the way it is. stealth is a custom frame meant to withstand the stress applied with that amount of force

I agree. I dislike the bag approach. I just meant how much it weighs.

What is a reasonable weight for your dream bike that can handle 35mph? 60 pounds?

I could ride anything up to about 90 pounds with no problem. I use to ride my bike with ankle weights, so the weight of a heavy bike wouldn't mind me. lighter bikes strike me as being less stable at high speeds.

I agree with you on the bag approach. it doesn't protect the batteries, and it insulates their heat while pulling power, especially at that current rate.

OK. So 75 pounds is fine? I was thinking the easiest way to drop weight is from the battery.

What if the battery were split into 5Ah modules that you plug together. If go for a short trip you only carry 5 pounds of battery. A long trip carry 30 pounds of battery?

For a 2000w motor, the power-to-weight ratio can be up to six times higher with modular, light weight batteries.

What I would do is buy a stealth fighter. pull the batteries out, and tape a bunch of 6s Lipo batteries together, and connect them with a standard rc banana connector. then for equal power you would have less weight, and a higher discharge rate

Kyle,
Let's put some numbers together to see if Stealth Fighter is good for you. I put together a Google sheet from Court's reviews for you.

Can you simply go thru the list and rate on a scale from 1 to 5, how you feel about it? The left hand column is for your ratings. You will need to copy this Google sheet and edit it from your Google account. Then give me read access to your ratings.

I will crunch the numbers for you to see the results in a Star Plot. I guessed at how you might rate the bike features. If you want to ignore a feature, score it as 0. Otherwise, rate on a scale from 1 to 5.

The Cost-Benefit chart for the example Google Sheet looks like the following:

I'm out of the house from my computer at te moment. but I'll fill it out this afternoon thank you

You might really like M1 Sporttechnik.

A second Google Sheet for the Spitzing for you to compare the two bikes.

The M1 Spitzing is much higher performance than the Stealth Fighter:

$9000 ($7900)
120Nm (?) torque climbs the equivalent of an Olympic Ski Jump (71% grade)
58 pounds (75)
980 watts (3000)
880 watt hours (960)
65-95 mile range (30-40)
47mph top speed (37)

The Stealth fighter is in parens.

All I can say is wow. It's about 10k for the maxed out version (r pedellec) that's just amazing
