More and more e-bikes!

Stopped for an iced French vanilla latte mid-ride yesterday at Nixon's Coffee House, parked next to an Orbea and a Haibike. They belong to a mom (Orbea road bike) and her daughter (the Haibike mtn bike). Hubby also owns an Orbea, all bought used on Craigslist, checked out and serviced at Bike Source. While we were talking e-bikes we saw 3 Pedegos ride by on the trail. 6 e-bikes is still pretty unusual here absent a group ride, but I'm seeing more and more on the trails. Now, if we can just keep the bureaucrats and. pols from screwing things up!

Interesting, we just completed a twenty-eight day camping trip in Fl, Ga, and NC. We stayed in six different RV parks and never saw another e-bike. As usual, lots of comments and questions about the e-bikes.

Two years ago I didn't see any eBikes in my small town now they are everywhere. I hang around our local ebike store a lot and they're moving 4-5 a day and I live in a hick-town.

its good to hear the word is spreading! here in suburban N.J E-Bikes are still few and far between, hopefully that will change but you never know, its not just the bureaucrats and pols we have to worry about, now its the guys riding these high power 40/50mph E-Bikes flying up and down public roads and bike paths and trails, these are not even E-Bikes they are just electric motor cycles.

I'm with you.

not sure why using the throttle would make someone a Dumbass/Dork,or why they should buy a scooter or pretend to pedal? what difference does it make so long as they are operating within the State law why should you care?

No pedaling equals a scooter. Trying to gain acceptance and it doesn't help when someone flies by on throttle only. If you are so old or invalid to pedal, you get a pass.

NYC is showing major increases as well, though I haven't seen any E-citibikes since they were removed with a too powerful front braking issues.

We do most of our riding on the same local trails. Last summer we saw only two or three ebikes on the trail other than our own. Yesterday we stopped at one of the trail rest stops. There were 6 people there including my wife and I. Five of us were riding ebikes. A week ago at a different trail stop over, I visited with a young couple who were there with their two toddlers. Both were riding ebikes with child carriers. Our city just added an ebike sharing program this summer and that is giving people an opportunity to try an ebike without spending a lot of money. So it would seem that ebiking is on a sharp increase here.

eBikes with throttles are one of the key decision influencers for a certain portion of the eBike community. Not sure I understand the wisdom of a bike rider disparaging bike riders. Anything that encourages bike riding is to be commended.

Then try pedaling and not relying on a throttle, 90% of the time. I saw another one yesterday, zooming by everyone. It certainly doesn't help with the acceptance of e-bikes .

TForan if you're so concerned with people looking like fools and scooters why don't you quit goofing around with an electric bike and ride a real bike... or are you too weak to do that? For every disparaging thing you say about throttles there are lots of bikers who say the same about any electric bike, throttle or not.

Pay closer attention. Bikes should be pedaled not just a workout for your thumb. I can get more aerobic exercise on my ebike than on my regular bike depending on assist. Just a bad look on the paths, that's all. Carry on, gramps.

I don't care what type of bike you're on as long as your riding safe. I see BICYLISTS (anyone on any type of bike) going way too fast on bike trails. Compromising the safety of others should NEVER be allowed. I don't really care how you choose to ride your bike... throttle, pedal, coast ect…. as long as you ride safe with courtesy to others... your good to me. If your aren't doing that then as far as I'm concerned you have opened up the opportunity to be criticized or ticketed. It's important to respect bike trails and those on them. Why question what type of bike someone is on at all if they are following courtesy and safety? You don't know what someone else's life challenges are. You do you...… BTW for anyone asking (not that matters or anyone's business)...….I have a Class 1 ebike and I pedal.

To clarify, my only complaint is the use of throttle on multi use paths. We are trying to gain acceptance and one way is to be overtly courteous. Zooming by walkers on throttle only doesn't help. I've seen disapproval from numerous walkers , when it happens. If you want to use your throttle going to the store, I have no problem with that.

You act like bikes that zoom past people are only throttle bikes. Hardly the case and bikes with throttles are doing nothing to hurt ebike exposure. There are bad apples on every form of bike.
My wife and I ride 20 + miles on our throttle equipped ebikes most weekends and the only people passing us are Lycra clad road bike users. Maybe road bike users should be banned because they make our ebikes look slow. I will say, around here, they give us a hi or good mourning as they pass us by so we thoroughly enjoy our ebike rides and our throttles when we choose to use them.

Wow, once again , I'm talking about my experience on multi use paths in my town. I've seen several people shake their heads at throttle only riders who go by dangerously . Are they the only abusers ? Of course not. We have bike groups who think they can't slow down on these paths and they are just as bad. Ok, chief ?

We should be complaining about anyone who is not safe on a bicycle path.....singling out is the problem. Roadies, throttle, ebike, fat bike, hybrid....it doesn't matter. Safety is the most important thing. We don't single out Corvettes, Mustangs, Camaros even though they are meant to be driven fast on the road???? We will if you aren't doing what you are supposed to. Why single out a group when really there are many types of offenders? Are there more offenders with certain types of bikes.... YES....but that is a user error not a bicycle error. TForan your a great person....and I see your point about being extra cautious because we ride ebikes but we shouldn't have to defend ebikes. We need to focus on offenders not specific bike types. I mean none of this to offend you and I really hope I haven't.

I ride an e-bike only and want other bike riders to accept us. Of course there are many different offenders, but the throttle only ones draw a lot of needless attention. At least fake it, if you have to. I'm done.
