Mid-drive - Walk mode...Placebo effect??

Most of my rides have been spent in pedal assist 0, "walk-mode," with the motor (Bafang mid drive 48v500w) putting out 53w. I can feel the assist when in lower gears on flat roads. I'm wondering how much assist I am actually getting in higher gears... Is there an actual benefit, or do I just feel like its giving me the extra push since I see that 53w output on the screen...?

Either way, at >100km, my battery (48v13.6ah charged to 90%) is usually still at somewhere around 53.2ish V; at least according to my display (DCP14), haven't measured it with a volt meter.

I've only used the walk mode on my BBS02 once, and I was walking the bike with a flat tire up a hill. I wonder if it does anything at higher speed, as your feet are turning the crank faster than 3 mph in any gear.
