Installed a 50 tooth Chain ring on my Fold XS

I just installed a 50 tooth chain ring on my Fold XS bike. My goal was to be able to still have some pedal resistance when going faster. I found I still had some "pedal" left at around 22mph. It seems to work well. The 50 tooth chain gear seems to be a good fit in several ways. 1) It definitely gives me the ability to still be able to pedal at higher speeds 2) It is still easy to pedal at the lowest speed. I have a decent incline on my driveway and was able to pedal up the incline with ease. 3) The gear doesn't really protrude past the edge of the chain guard so pants won't set caught in the chain and the chain is still protected. (see picture) 4) Because the chain ring is separate from the crank, the crank shaft did not have to be removed making installation easy.
Bought it on Amazon from a company called Deckas. They have a few different colors so I went with the red just to add a little color. The quality seems very good. Nice anodized aluminum alloy.

Sounds good,I have the Fold XS and changed the back sprocket to be able to pedal going 27-28mph,maybe if I change the front star like you did,why might be talking 30mph,and I'm 52 with some good leg strength left
 
Tone Rod, just out of curiosity, how fast can you get your bike up to with just the throttle? I set my speed limiter to the maximum 25mph but can only get get up to around 22-23 mph, throttle only. My weight is 175lbs.
 
And thats buddy how fast you're gonna go, I did the same,but I was running out of peddle so I change the back sprocket and now I've gotten to 28.8 peddling with the motor
 
Thanks for posting this! FYI, my Sondors MXS has the same gear (OEM) and same problem. But I heard the overall top speed is higher on the MXS vs. fold (28MPH when you raise the speed limit). How close is the chain ring/gear to hitting the frame? Probably plenty of clearance if it still sits in the guards. Do you think you could have/should have gone with the 52 tooth instead? I may go that route.
 
I think a 52 tooth might work. Obviously chain length and the ring gear being slightly above the chain guard must be considered. Another consideration is the ease of pedaling in first gear. I purchased mine on Amazon Prime so returns are accepted.
 
Are you really hauling b*tt pedaling at that speed? I guess, to some degree, "running out of pedals" is somewhat subjective too. I'll have to make a note of my MXS tomorrow on flat land and in 7th gear. Thanks!
 
Well took the MXS offroad today (for the third time). I found first gear sufficient in some slow, unassisted runs. Almost have me thinking I won't gear up right now, it would be too hard to pedal unless I rely on the PAS. Will have to keep testing.

Wings02. Installing the chainring now. I heard a little chain noise since the install, so I followed Park Tool'd "How to adjust a rear derailluer"video (again). No abnormal noise before the chainring. I got the 50T, like you. Same source from Amazon. I am working on my bike with the bike upside-down, using my new "handlebar jack". That thing is awesome and going in my emergency flat tire kit!

Anyhow, It's raining cats and dogs, so no test ride today, but the noise does seem to be coming from the new larger chainring. I took pics before to make sure I was installing the spacer and bolts correctly. This new chainring is slightly thicker than the stock Sondors one. Would that push/pull the chainring out of alignment?

If it's not too much to ask, being the only other person I know with the same brand/size chainring-could you flip your bike upside-down and let me know if you have any noise from the chainring area?
