Generic MD 1000 and HD 750 ebike model discussion

received this today:

Dear Bikonit Customers

Thank you so much for trusting us and riding with Bikonit all-terrain ebikes. We highly appreciate your Support. You are receiving this email because of the battery issues of Bikonit ebikes. We have always been putting safety concerns as a priority for Bikonit customers. In this case, we keep developing and testing every ebike designed and manufactured by Bikonit, Inc. Recently, the test lab detected a potential risk of the battery BMS system. In the BMS chipboard, we found that the ceramic capacitor may fail and lead to battery dysfunction, or even serious consequences if riding strenuously. So hereby, we would like to recall your batteries on board and do an upgrade to eliminate hidden safety hazards for our customers.

You may have the following questions:

1. What should I do next?

We will arrange the pick up at your place with the FedEx hazard department, what you need to do is go to “https://www.fthpower.com/pages/wanda-repair-form" to get yourself registered on the FTH website, the detailed process is attached to this email, please check it and follow the instruction to get yourself registered so that we can arrange the pick up for you ASAP.

2. Can I still ride my ebike now?

We suggest you stop riding your bike and take out the battery , place it somewhere outdoor in your yard for safety concerns separately

3. Do I need to pay for it?

No, you do not need to pay any penny. Bikonit will cover all the costs for you. And to show our apologies to our customers, we would like to give you a $100 coupon from the Bikonit web-store and choose the necessary gadget you need.

4. Will there still be any hidden problems with the battery when upgraded?

No. According to the report from our engineers and the test lab, the solution we are going to apply to the batteries will eliminate the hidden problem and get your ebikes as an outstanding all-terrain fat tire ebike again. All the batteries are covered by insurance from Bikonit.

5. Warranty

The warranty of your battery will be extended for 2 months after the RMA number was created.

.6. How long will it take?

Normally, it will take 7~15 workdays for the FTH professional team to get your battery upgraded, then your battery will be shipped out to you immediately.

Please do keep in mind once you have completed the registration on the FTH website, please reply to us with your RMA number for tracking and better service. After you send us the RMA, you will get the coupon.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation. If you have any other questions please get back to us via a reply to this email directly and we will have a service specialist behind you

Yup it’s a PITA for sure! The fix looks quite easy but as I’ve said before lithium goes up like a box of fireworks so check then check your work again before you button your batteries back up. They are also offering a place in USA and one in Europe that will do the work under warranty. You just send your batteries to get fixed and Leili will reimburse you. I know it’s a pain but they are great bikes for zipping around so you’ll love it once it’s done. You didn’t get the IGH did you?

They make it sound like they are doing more than branding the bike. It sounds like they have a big factory and a fleet of engineers.

lol, yeah I thought he same thing. fact is I think it is one or two guys that run the place, responses always from from "Mark" and they usually take days to get. additionally I was recently told they do not sell the parts to their bikes, they will warranty them but it can take 3-4 months to get a part.

I inquired about replacing the front fork because I stripped an axel bolt and I can't get the damn thing out and I am afraid if I drill it out I will damage the fork. Not a warranty claim, and they won't sell me the fork or even tell me who the manufacturer is so I can just purchase it myself.

Haven't heard about BIKTRIX, I'm wandering how they handle it, is there anyone who has bought the bike from them ? I think it's the only Canadian company that sells them .

I posted the same email from Bikonit in the Known Issues & Problems with Bikonit Products section. Interesting that both Yeili and Bikonit are stepping up on this. They are shipping me boxes for both batteries and being in CA I expect that all will be good in a couple of weeks.

BTW, I heard from a Yeili person that only 2 batteries out of 1000 tested had the issue. My batteries were heavily used and exhibited no problems whatsoever. I think that Yeili and Bikonit have been good responsible companies on this as the financial hit will not be small due to shipping alone.

Come to think of it, replacing the SA IGH at what was their cost wasn't a bad solution either. Pretty good customer service from a Chinese company that could have just ignored the issues.

I emailed them and asked if they could just send me 3 batteries, 2 plus the xtra that I bought. And that I'd ship the bad ones back to them or to a reseller here in the US, at their direction.

yeah I use mine daily, had the Bikonit for 2 months and have a bit over 2,000 miles on it, 2 charge cycles a day at work and at home, zero issues with the electronics or gearing.

brakes on the other had have been a nightmare.

From what I'm hearing customers from the US got some how luckier then the others, they sent me two BMS, a video and a pdf file on how to change them, she said (Flora) it's so easy that even her she can do it, will see about that.
On another topic days ago I added a little bit more than 5psi reaching a bit more than 25psi and difference is really impressive on asphalt, I suddenly realized that 9 speed it almost not enough for me, by putting a SRAM NX 11 speeds on their bikes BIKTRIX did a smart move, I probably gonna do the same later on, with around 250$ you can have the whole set and that includes the shifter, derailleur, cassette and chain.

The process to register your batteries with FTH Power and then ship them free of charge to get them upgraded is not difficult. You might want to get on that program as I think your suggested solution has a few snags. :)

That's strange, the brakes on my MD 1000 have worked flawlessly.

hey J3ON, Yes I have, the same as Bikonit, via FTH Power for evaluation, testing, replacement, etc. under warranty!

Hey Scrambled, just curios, is Leili picking up the cost to shipping/evaluate/replacement of the 2 batteries for your bike?
thx,
LB
Yes they said they're covering the shipping cost. She also told me they will be having another company to ship the batteries to in America.

Thanks Lou B , They probably did not mention the FTH Power option to me because I live in Canada and sending the batteries in the US would be expensive for them .

UPS delivered the Hazmat box within a box for battery recall shipping today. Pretty great packaging and very clear instructions included.

The tracking on the big shipment says "the ship has been discharged, and the container will be picked up by the..." So, Leili has not told me to get the battery package, etc. I'm in US. Can I get the hazardous box from FTHPower now so I can shorten the time until I have a corrected battery in my bike?

I spoke to Leili before I got the email from Bikonit. They mentioned FHT and gave me the website as an alternative to shipping me a "recall kit" like you are awaiting. I had no intention of opening the battery up and doing the battery BMS swap out myself. I shipped both batteries on Monday. Expect them back within a week.

Not sure they will honor your request for both as apparently you elected to do the swap out yourself. They also sent me a broken english instruction PDF that explained the self repair process. It looked complicated, potentially dangerous and then, I would be responsible for the result ... no thanks!

I didn't elect anything. I'm not following. I don't have the bike yet. I only received the email from Leili informing me of the battery issue. No other communication yet.
