Engwe L20 Boost Problem

Hi again,

I'm not sure I'm posting this in the right forum, so please excuse me if that is the case.

I'm having a problem with my new Engwe L20 Boost (EU throttle-less version). For those not familiar with this model, it has a 48V system with a torque sensor and a novel 'Boost' switch which seems to give maximum pedal-assist for limited periods of time.

Occasionally whilst riding, the pedal-assist will suddenly quit with a slight shuddering of the motor. Selecting PAS=0 (''-'' button) and then returning to PAS=1 (''+'' button) clears the problem, as does switching the display off then on again. This has happened about seven times in the last few weeks, which is enough times to identify it as a real problem. It happened twice on a five-minute ride one time, but other times I will ride for 20 km without an issue.

If I dismount with the fault active, I have noticed that it's quite hard to push the bike backwards. Next time this happens I'm going to lift the rear wheel off the ground and see if it spins at all.

Anyway, I'd be really grateful for any thoughts regarding this. Aside from this (and my tyre woes, but that's another thread!) I'm loving the L20 Boost. Owning an ebike has been a game changer for me.

I have contacted Engwe, but I'm not sure how much is being lost in translation.

Regards,

Steve

Hi
Can anybody help, please?
The pedal assist on my new Engwe L20 Boost seems faulty to me.
All the levels 1 - 5 feel the same on flat ground or going uphill.
I stay at the same speed and the pedaling force remains the same.
I have to use the boost mode on hills.
Any idea what the problem could be?
I did a factory reset on the display, just in case something got changed but it´s the same.
I have sent Engwe an email but haven´t received a reply yet.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

There's no problem. All the PAS levels are the same in the L20 Boost (except ''0''). It seems to me that the L20 Boost is not a fully developed product. I believe the display was designed primarily for cadence-sensor equipped bikes, but has been pressed into service with the L20 Boost. Many of the 'P' settings are inoperative too, being cadence-sensor related.

I really like my L20 Boost, but I am beginning to believe a little more product development would have been beneficial.

thank you so much for your suggestion

After some back-and-forth confusion, Engwe have offered to send me a new 'speed sensor', whatever that is (Hall sensor, possibly?). It's also possible they've confused the model for the L20 (non-Boost) and are sending me a cadence sensor.

I'm not confident this is going to achieve anything useful, but it's probably best to go along with their suggestion at this point.
