Electronic Anemometer

64 gr. , I know I have one and it's the last thing I would bring on a ride. I bought one for drones and falconry and never used it. My own perception of the wind is accurate enough.

Sorry. I just don't get it.
Rain does not affect the battery range but wind does.
The actual wind speed is an important parameter for adjusting assistance during long trips to make sure I would return still with a battery charge.
Can you tune assistance levels on the fly with your e-bike?

we had a heatwave here in the PNW and wind like crazy two years ago. gusts about 60mph so much wind dust and leaves and plant stuff in the air and we rode in it. Had to watch for falling branches. we stopped at a light and I saw a gust of wind coming that almost blew us over I bet one of the 60mph gusts it was crazy.

Ya, but you ride shorter distances and do not need to plan your routes.
I made an estimate a good tailwind adds at least 100 W to my rides. And I guess a headwind of the same speed steals far more than that from the battery if a decent cruising speed is necessary. (And it is because a long distance ride must be completed in reasonable time).

i do ~ 90km a day off road DH, XC in all weather. That challenge for a 400 mile race of the pennine bridleway is still open stefan.

You *might* be OK with these bits.

But not most of it which are these bits.

Well... Sailors, mountain climbers, drone operators, etc. use anemometers. Why shouldn't an e-biker use it?
OK....I'll take the bait.
-Sailors use them because they probably maintain a logbook onboard. Logical.
-Mountain climbers so they can brag to (and bore the f*** out of) whomever will listen to their blather about how bad the wind was blowing on their climb. Ego.
-And drone pilots, despite the wind on the ground possibly being completely different at flight altitude. Pointless.

And e-bikers? Well, in my case, I wouldn't think of it, feel zero need for it and packing it along would be the least of my worries if I were to suddenly drop 60 IQ points and decide to get one. But that's just me.
Fill your boots tho'.

That bike is my winter "beater" the carbon fibre beaut has had a respray after a hard summer and a refit.

These are the doors open to DIYers, we're truly punk.

And it would have been a complete game changer, had you known the EXACT wind velocity, right?

Because we are not sailing, mountain climbing or piloting a drone.
Are you accepting the bet? Saturday. You ride for 56 miles and document it. Don't? Get off my back.
Because it is easy to talk but it's harder to ride. Even on a throttle, as the battery might not last upwind.

Obtuse... Obtuse.... Obtuse....
And you couldn't feel the wind increase?
Knowing it's exact speed helps you how?
Does it add insight into the future winds?
Do your 56 mile Saturday ride, then we can talk.
You seem to be an Internet warrior. I prefer riding. Aware riding for long distances.

I have a life other than riding and riding is only part of what I do...so NO I have no interest nor the time this weekend to entertain your offer. Besides I enjoy our interaction too much to stop following you 😘
But I will help you with some very anecdotal information.
I did my typical +/- 20 mile ride today and had a 20mph sustained headwinds on my return.
Once I charge my battery in the morning I'll update with my battery usage and other bits.
I rode between 12:30pm - 2:30pm

Gionni: Interested to hear about your battery consumption to ride into a strong headwind. Please also tell me how you actually did your ride. I assume you use the throttle to adjust the cruising speed but are still pedalling?

@Rome: to relieve your boredom and loneliness a little bit:
  • Cannabis are illegal in Poland. These are legalized in the Czech Republic as the only country in the region of East Europe.
  • There is no ethnic quarter in any of Polish towns. We have Chinese, more Vietnamese, and the Ukrainian are the most represented foreign nation here (it was like that even before the recent war). The city of Wrocław has unproportionally large Greek population because of historical reasons. Most of Black people you meet here are Poles born in Poland. Everybody is equal here.
