Ebike newb, Tall w/ chronic back problems & ancient ebike repair!

Also i want to get my Boss's electric bike from 2004 up and running. I just found out that the Charger bike he acquired and never fully assembled. Should i start another thread about that in a certain section?
Am i allowed to link to the website with specs on the bike and battery?

very cool, right now i carry a large shoulder bag that is capable of holding a large laptop and my other various things, it would be cool if i could some how find a way to attach that to my bike, maybe just inside a basket?
it's this bad boy
Depending on how strong the basic bag is, you can add a stiffener panel to the inside, and rivet a quick-release hook kit to any pack if you want to make a custom pannier.

Yes, throw it up in the maintenance and repair forum with as much detail as you can provide. Lots of eyes over there...

That is a good sized bag. I use the Office Bag from Ortlieb and it fits two laptops along with other stuff I need to carry. I also use an Ortlieb Roller Bag on the other side as a gym bag if I want to go for a run at lunch. I am not actually commuting right now as I have been working from home. The Roller Bags are just one big open space inside and are good for carrying groceries as well. Both are waterproof and have a quick release mechanism for pulling off the rack.

i see a lot of people mention go to a local bike store, and i get that, but where i live there aren't that many options in my price range. I was looking to spend around $1500 and no way over $2000 and the only bike at my local store is the townie go 7D which is the lowest on my short list as of now. I am interested in Aventon but i don't see any shops within 150 miles of myself. To me this leaves shopping online and trying to base it off of reviews or discussions on a forum, as is the reason i am here. Ride1up seems to have a lot of options that im looking for also, but i dont think i can see those locally.

If you are going to try a one size fits most bike for a very tall rider with chronic back pain .....

Just make sure you can return it and what it wil.cost. It's often several hundred dollars per bike returned.

well ideally i wouldn't buy a one size fits most model. Radmission 1, for $1100 seems like a very good tall person's bike, but it only has 1 speed and that bothers me because of the .7 miles that i need to travel with about 170 feet height in travel.

I just watched this video on biking with back pain, this is bob and brad, physical therapists and i love their videos. They talk about a few sitting positions, and i think im like the really tall one, i think i would have to be in an upright sitting position. Is there a certain style bike i should look for, like "cruiser" or mountain bike, that would give me a more upright position?

Hello! Just a suggestion. Please try a Brooks flyer or similarly sprung seat. This has really eliminated pain in my lower back. Of course, the guys are right about a full suspension helping. Still, a worthwhile consideration. IMHO, a lot of padding doesn't help. The various shock absorbing seat posts help a lot of riders but I've not really fallen in lover there. I guess just a personal anatomy thing. I leave it to others far more informed on any other suggestions.

i went to my back specialist and he said it was a good idea to try biking, so im pretty excited about that. I feel like a more upright position is going to be best for me. I had recently purchased up facing handle bars so maybe i will try those out on the bike i'm fixing for my boss and see if that helps. I am looking for a large, comfortable seat i think. Maybe some kind of suspension post would also help i would assume?

A Recumbent bike might give you a more comfortable riding position.... But you'd probably have to add an ebike kit to it as well, so not the cheapest option, but maybe worth looking into if you have storage space.

I can visualize 2 front hub motors powering this !

I wonder how well dual motors would actually work though? The turning rate changes in corners, and it's darn near impossible to truly sync 2 motors outputs perfectly. I have seen "mid-Drive" trikes, and that might make a better solution for more power? There must be valid reasons you don't see the commercially produced e trikes with twin front motors...

I´ve had fractures, lumbar, thorasic, & cervical. I´ve considered a tadpole, but 2 whl recumbents
just don´t feel right. Strangely enuff, I´m most comfortable upright on hardtails.

Just thought i would give an update. I got the ancient electric bike working and i have put 100 miles on it so far, today was my best day with 35 total miles on 3 trips. My lower back feels great thanks to a very large seat i bought on amazon, marketed towards seniors I am only experiencing pain in my upper back and neck area, i have a natural forward leaning head posture so biking puts my head in the opposite direction. I was able to attach my old bike's topeak bike rack and i'm attaching my camera gear bags to it and that has worked for the time being. Anyone have suggestions for how to attach a wire basket to a rack for trips to the grocery store? I think bungee cords would be best so i could take them off quickly? Thanks for everyone's help in the maintenance section that has been a lot of help. I am in love with biking!!

I haven't done it yet, but I was going to try and mount a pair of pannier quick release brackets horizontally to the bottom of my Thule Pack and Pedal basket so I could quick release it and slide it off the back. Not sure if it will work yet, but seems like it should.

I forgot I had like 6 milk crates.. and I work in IT so I have a lot of eithernet cables so I went with this and it worked well lol

I used zipties and bungy cords last time and I might add zip ties to this one but I feel it's pretty secure and very easy to remove without the ties but honestly I might just keep it attached

When you get the budget, look into some clip on panniers like the Ortlieb Back Rollers. I also commuted with the Ortlieb Office Bag pannier and it could hold two laptops and other items. It unclips by lifting the handle and has a shoulder strap. The Office Bag is black and blends in in an office environment.

Yeah that would be nice. I can carry a lot currently but not a laptop easily and I have 1 large one that I would like to be able to carry easily.
