diy light weight ebike

has anyone completed or is working on a diy lightweight e bike with a thru axle hub , battery in the down tube design, similar to a x20 mahle system? (scott addict, orbea gain). There are only a few thru axle hub motors I know of, grin all axle (9lbs, which is too heavy), mahle x20 (3 lbs, expense and no support from mahle). I am not sure how one would hook up a controller to the x20 motor
