Changing rear cassette on st2

Hi,
My favorite rear cassette gear (the smallest ring) is now skipping, which makes sense because I'm on that ring 97% of the time. I read somewhere that the "Shimano Deore Xt 10 Speed Cassette" is the proper part to use, but cant find an official Stromer recommendation on the correct part. Also will be a good time to switch out the chain. Anybody done this work themselves? Any recommendations on parts or tips on how to do it efficiently?

Thanks in advance!
Neal

Are you sure the cassette is worn, sounds like you have chain stretch. Stop into any bike shop and they can measure the chain and tell you if it needs replacement. They can also inspect the freewheel. The free wheel is for a Shimano, 20-Speed, 52X36T, CS 11-34T. You can order online or through any IBD. You will need a Shimano lock tool to remove the freewheel.

If you want to try an alternative to a Shimano chain, you can order a Connex Chain 10SE by Wipperman. It is a stainless steel chain.

Thank you for the advice. I will have the chain checked.

Thank you both for your help! After checking the chain, it was fine. After pulling the cassette, the 11T gear was cracked. As suggested by Streumer, I just replaced that ring, and am back on the road again.

What tool did you use to remove the cassette? My local bike shop tried to remove mine and they didn't have the correct tool to remove it.

They must of changed them on the ST2's - my 2013 St1 Platinum came with a Sun Race MFEX9 - 9AU that has four wide slots on the lock-ring.

I looked at an ST2 and it had the SunRace freewheel as well. Maybe its a production year thing. Was curious what upgrades were available. Shimano freewheels are crap, not I have the experience to make that comment, but of 3 shops I visited looking at upgrades 2 had that opinion. Shimano cassettes are great, but it's a freewheel on the bikes, not a cassette. The SunRace would be considered an upgrade. Not sure if they have the right combination of gears in the same gear count in SunRace. Shimano amy be the only option (sad).
One brand that was recommended is Stahl, but they are out of business. After using the bike now, its been shifting really really great, and I dont feel the need to improve on the freewheel.
