Cable Management (ideas ?)

Hey ! Good Day Everybody............................

My question to you today is this:
Should I attempt to gather together, or enclose, the cables in front of my handlebars, or leave well enough alone ?
I wouldn't mind a cleaner look, but not at the expense of Functionality, or Serviceability.

My favorite stuff to organize cables is call split loom. Inexpensive and easy to install.

Here is my Riese & Muller Homage all tidy with split loom

Alaskan, I like the "Easier install" potential of the Split Loom you mention,
however I noted in Ravi's Link to Spiral Wire Wrap, it is described as
"allowing Movement and Flex of the contained wires" (which sounds somewhat critical to me).

Do you feel that your application of the Split Loom is allowing your cables adequate freedom of movement ?

I really appreciate your help guys !

Split loom comes in various diameters. If you get the right size there will be room for movement, as much if not more than spiral wrap.

I used to toss the spiral wrap that came in my motor kits aside for split loom. Then I saw a store bought bike with spiral wrap and became a convert. The latter is smaller/tighter.

The spiral wrap came standard on my Haibike. I had not seen or used it before but I really like it. The flexibility to enter and exit cables at different points is nice and I find that the split loom is prone to making plastic rattle noise.

That is a nice detail you point out.

I do like the super clean look of Alaskan's Split Loom,
Although it does look like a BORG Bike........... kinda Badass

So, for those of you that use the Spiral Wrap, it sounds like it can be a pain to put on......
Do you have any technique suggestions ?

I think the key to a tidy look is not which of the 2 types wrap to use, but not having to deal with excess cable lengths. Up front, anything beyond what it takes for the handlebars to turn from lock to lock uninhibited is excess length. If that is taken care of properly, THEN wrapped, you'll have a nice clean look when you are done every time. Even if you use some well placed cable ties/zip ties, without using a bulkier wrap, you can have a professionally installed look. Ties often make the job quicker/easier - as long as you are working with properly sized cables.

Alaskan............. I measured the Max Diameter of (3) cables coming together, at aprox. 1/2 inch.
What Diameter Split Loom do you recommend ?

Also, Can you get your Cables in to it without undoing (dis-attaching) the ends of the cable ?

1/2" sounds good. Split loom is a tube of ribbed plastic that comes split longitudinaly. You pry it open starting at one end and tuck all three cables into it as you go. Any cable can emererge wherever it needs to. I use a small zip tie at each end and where any cable enters or emerges along the way.

Nothing needs to be detached. Sometimes a shifter or brake lever needs to be loosened, slipped off the bar end in order to eliminate internal twists and then put back in place.

Here is my first attempt at Cable Management.
I tried a Hybrid of what both of you used.
It is basically like a Split Loom, but kinda like a Spiral Wrap as well.

I will live with it for a while and see how I like it..........
