Does anyone know why all the sudden the brakes on my shengmilomx02s suck? I have to pump the crap out of them as fast as I can and hope I slow down a little bit before i wipe out. How do I fix it.

are they hydraulic? if so it sounds like the need bled. you either bu the right bleed kit or take it to a shop that can do it.

Fit some lower-end Shimanos. Destroy what's left of the OEMs so they don't try to kill anyone else :)

Hi,
Welcome to EBR. My two cents, but first a couple of questions. How old is the bike and did the brakes just suddenly fail or
did slowly get worse . No my two cents...

Brakes are not amateur night. Go to a shop, but don't be surprised if the shop isn't willing to work on no name Hydraulic brakes.
They may not be able to get parts and or because of the potential liability should the off brand brakes fail again.
For your safety, this troubles me that you've experienced a major brake failure.

Good luck and let us know the outcome,
John

I got the bike new about 4 months ago. I just put 300 miles on it. Yesterday the brakes were fine, today they weren't. I was going down the steepest hill in town, which is steep, I pumped on them and there was nothing. They'd start to get a little pressure but barely anything. I had to pump them as fast as I could if I let loose of them for to long they'd loose all the pressure built up from the first 8 or 9 pumps. It's a good thing I didnt go down because I wouldnt have even tried to get up. I wouldve just laid there in a pile for the rest of my life.

I know very little about hydraulic brakes, so take this for what it's worth. Have you turned the bike over for any reason? Whether or not, it sounds like you might have air in the lines, in which case you need to bleed the brakes and top of the fluid. YouTube can help, or take to to your bike shop. Don't guess about what kind of fluid to use. The reservoir should be labeled, or read the manual.

Look for brake fluid leaks too.

Yes, not all the way up side down, but on the back tire pushing it up hill.

So the front wheel was up in the air, above the back wheel? Okay, why? Sounds to me like the brakes need bleeding. Depending on you mechanical ability, this is a routine maintenance thing to deal with, but if you aren't comfortable with the job, it should be fairly cheap to have done by a local bike shop. You have no choice, either way you have to get your brakes fixed or quit riding!

It also sounds like yes, you have hydraulic brakes, but you have very low end hydraulic brakes. Some more expensive hydraulic brakes are much less susceptible to problems with being inverted, so, as others have suggested , you might want to look at upgrading.

Hello again,

So your bike is 4 months old with 300 miles...That's a new bike ! As mentioned prior I would take your bike
to skilled bike shop for an eval / repair and not 'play amateur night' trying to come up with a fix...

Your life depends on those brakes working correctly and reliably for a very long time. You didn't comment on
how the brakes worked ( stopping power, did they fade etc ) when the brakes were working.

I would not play 'Mister Fix-it' if this was my bike. This is no time for "Let's try this and see what happens" I'm
not making fun. I consider catastrophic brake failure on 'new bike' a serious deal breaker. I have two 5 year
old e-bikes with 11,000 + miles and the hydraulic brakes are perfect.

While I'm rambling......The no name battery that came with the bike.
I'm concerned about safety / possible fire hazard. Again potential life
threatening should a fire occur, ever so slim.

Good point about it being a new bike. Take it back to the dealer. It should be under warranty. Long-term, bleeding brakes is a routine job. Depending on your comfort level with simple mechanics, it is the kind of job that many people would do themselves.
