Bosch motor average life span.

This is how failures are often modeled in manufacturing - the failure rate is high at the beginning, due to lemons, and then high at the end as parts wear out. Known as the bathtub curve.

As for which brand is most reliable, there may not be definitive data, but Pedego has the most generous warranties at 5 years, and then Yamaha at 3 years, vs 2 for Bosch.
Interesting graph.

You are mixing in a bike maker that adds great value to Chinese made ebikes with local service and long warranty but makes no motors itself and two motor manufacturers. Totally apples and elephants.

To quote @Ravi Kempaiah , one of the most knowledgeable people on this forum, in a two year old post:
"All the hub motors that you see on Pedego are made by DAPU. It is a Japanese company with factories in China.

However, the Dapu mid motor needs a bit more refinement. The recent ones are a ok but the Pedego mid-drives leave much to be desired. It has some lag and takes more effort than Bosch or Yamaha motors."

It's a specious distinction from a customer perspective. Product warranties are as much a business decision as they are an engineering one. I grant that Pedego may have a customer base that puts less strain on motors than Bosch, eg less mileage and lower intensity riding. But at the end of the day there's little very transparency around hardware reliability, thus this thread. So all you have to go by as a customer is the brand's assurances.
On an analog bike, part warranties are pretty minimal, but you're also not looking at $1000 replacement costs for anything besides the frame, and that's often covered for several years or for life. Plus those analog parts are pretty reliable.

Sorry the forum isn't letting me fix the quote of you that's actually from me

R&M E14, 4 months old and over 5,000 kms, and all's well. Did my Rohloff gear oil change at 4,500 and one set of brake pads.
I typically average ~16,000 a year but retiring soon so maybe more, or less, will see how it goes. Really do appreciate the belt drive with no chain, cassette, oil etc... Lowers the maintenance time and cost and no more oil and grease. I would have gone through 2-3 chains and would be close to a cassette and jockey wheel set by now based on my last Shimano STEPS maintenance history.

I am wondering about any scheduled maintenance other than the E14 and listening for any "abnormal" operational noise. Any information on this appreciated.

Bosch Performance CX line (Gen 2?) Just past 11,000km purchased in April 2020 and the motor has packed it in.
Something has blown on the right side of the axle. Covered by warranty (apparently) but how long till a replacement shows up??
Been over a week now. Bike is ride-able barely, no codes showing but, diagnostic said there was trouble
I'll post a couple vids showing the issue

Hi, did you find the problem ? I have the same motor. Thanks

I learned though don't let the motor stay wet for days. days of rain riding then my bike would not dry out because the shed was not heated caused the bottom bracket to rust. Id din to know you could change the seals. but you cant change them on the left side and that as the side thats rusted.

Just replaced my 2018 performance CX with just over 20k kilometers on it. Bearings were shot and were producing horrid squeaking noises.

Out of warranty after four years but replacement was reasonable at $800.

16 months and over 17,000 kms on my CX based R&M, -motor has not missed a beat. Hopefully if anything goes it'll be before the 2 year warranty has expired.

Bearings are expensive in USA? I wonder who make them.
