Best option right now? [Haibike FullFatSix]

So is it safe to assume that you no longer love Yamaha motors more than Bosch? Obviously you liked the way the Yamaha operated better. However, now that its durability is in question, the equation has changed, no?

I am quite eager to try a new Bosch motor with more torque, full size chain ring and not drag when not in use. If it is as durable as the prior generations of Bosch motors and fixes some of their shortcomings....yahoo!!!
I was happy to see Bosch go in that direction with the new motors' full size chain ring. I was thinking, what took them so long? 🧐

Yes good question. My bet is that it only shows a "tamper" alert when plugged into the computer. I would be interested in a bike with the new motors but not until I know I can delimit it.

I think you may be correct. I have read in other posts that when plugged in on your 3rd visit to your Bosch dealer, the firmware can/will detect a delimiter was used, and will then brick the motor.

I know that my 2018 does not show up as tampered on the computer even though I have a Bikespeed RS ,but the LBS knows it and knows not to do any updates on my system.

Okay, good to know. Steve. Sounds like it is all about the updates which will cause detection. That would make an interesting topic at my Bosch LBS if/when I decide to go with a bike powered by them. Once again, it all depends who you do your biz with. Nice workaround though.

Dmitri: What, if any, is the outcome on your Full FatSix drive failure? Did Haibike come up with a warranty scenario that was agreeable to you?

Did you purchase your Haibike in-country? What is the dealer network like in your home country?

Looking at your FFSix, I see your battery is missing the Haibike decal that is placed on an angle in these years of the Full FatSix. Is this a spare battery of yours or did your bike come that way?

The one thing I believe I am seeing with Haibike is that within forums like this one, there have been a few people who have had issues with warranty service with this bike manufacturer. What good are all the Haibike facebook posts with a paid factory bike rider like Sam Pilgrim do for the reputation of the brand when they don't go the extra mile of meeting a customer half-way and making them whole again, like in the situation you are finding yourself in, right now?

I don't think it'd be asking much for factory reps become a presence on a forum like this one, where they can respond to a person experiencing real problems like you are. If Haibike really wants to make an in-roads in the US and other countries, they need to realize after the sale support is just as important as photographing Pilgrim doing a 10 foot jump off a cliff face with his dual suspension Haibike.....

So, just a small update on how things went.

The response I got from my bike shop was to send them a photo or video of what's wrong with the motor. But of course that would require opening the motor and voiding the warranty, a typical catch-22.

So I sent the motor to an independent repair shop in the UK. No major problems were found, and one plastic ring that has developed hairline fractures was replaced, but was found to not be a contributing factor to my problem. In other words, the motor wasn't the root cause.

Upon the reinstallation of the motor, I took the bike to the bike shop. They fixed a bent derailleur hanger and a worn out shifter cable. Magically my problem with the freespin has vanished -- the bike is fine now.

Just for the fun of it, I sent the photos of the broken parts to my seller. Their immediate responses was to ask me whether the warranty seal on the bike was broken because if so, Haibike's warranty is void. Well of course it was broken, the motor was taken apart entirely!

So the summary takeaway from the Haibike warranty is this:
  • They want you to send the whole bike in (in my case: impossible)
  • They want you to send in photos of the broken parts without breaking the warranty seal on the motor (in my case: impossible)
So there's that. At least I'm glad I now have a contact (albeit a few thousand kilometers away) that can fix motors.

Good to hear your problems have been successfully resolved, @Dmitri! Many happy kilometres!
Besides, is the weather in Piter suitable for riding now?
