BBSHD motor/ intermittent power loss.

I had an intermittent fault with my motor/battery which I thought might involve my gear sensor. The EggRider display showed no error message but neither the throttle or PAS offered assistance from the motor, after 5-10 minutes they both worked. I unplugged the gear sensor, tested the throttle and promptly blew the BMS. What’s gone wrong?
Any help would be appreciated.
It’s the original controller and motor, the beast has done about 6000kms without very hard work and worked without fault until this problem. Let’s know if someone has an answer. Great forum By the way. Regards Daggs.

Not a BMS problem at all. Turns out that the USB reducer got blown. The upshot of this experience is that error messages on your display may not indicate the actual source of the problem. So I reckon check all options before you rely on ERROR messages on the display.

Connections first then battery then controller. Make sure you switch OFF the battery before you check any connectors and plugs.

Thanks! I wish everyone came back and shared their fixes. It's how we learn and find fixes. AGAIN! THANKS!!!

Now, what are you referring to by USB reducer?

The USB port in the battery which is powered by the battery (48-58.4 Volts) needs to be reduced to 5-6 Volts for USB functionality to function as a USB port. When the “blown” reducer was replaced everything went back to normal. So happy me now to have it sorted. Thanks again to Rob who builds and services my battery.

Gotcha! I've stopped using them. I've tested a few and they were putting out to much power to be reliable and can damage devices. We no longer sell batteries with those ports. Those ports are uber cheap Chinesium.

Thomas, I’ve been using a USB detector from Keweisa that shows Voltage and Amperage but most importantly has a fuse that blows well before 9V. You’re right though, I only use it to occasionally charge lights from the battery when I’m not riding and NEVER for the phone, I’ve got an auxiliary battery for that. Cheers, Daggs.

Thanks for the update and clarification!

Is your battery builder/repair guy in business to work with batteries? Someone you can share?

I’ll ask him, he’s got a business building and posting batteries via EBay from Wodonga in Australia, (now there’s a hint). Rob builds great durable batteries with quality cells and offers great service and backup... but then I live locally. Get back to you if you need more information. Thanks Thomas.
Daggs.

NEVER MIND you're in AU! Hopefully safe and in good air!
Smokes gone, thanks for your concern. The Ebike does a great job when the daytime temperature gets above 40 •C, saves energy and gets me to where I need to be. I don’t drive at all, so very much welcome the convective cooling that comes with riding my bike. Thanks again. Regards Daggs.

Hi Stefan, will regen work with the ASI controller on a BBSHD motor and how?
I understand the principle on hub motors but with mid bike drives the only way I can see it working is if you pedal downhill and switch to regen!!! Any thoughts 💭 💭💭.

No regen possible. Baserunner is a better choice, IME. Better documentation. Better price too.

Thanks Thomas, sorry Thomas, I didn’t mean to call you Stefan.
