Bafang Ultra Corn Head Grease Install Update - July 2022 to July 2025.

Back in July 2022 I decided to install John Deer Corn Head grease in my new Bafang Ultra. This photo is what my motor looked like when I opened it in May 2023 after 10 months. I was very pleased with the noise reduction and performance. Grease was well distributed everywhere. I slathered on a few more tablespoons of Corn Head on top of the old grease and closed the motor.

I just opened my motor today after 26 months from the last regreasing in May 2023. The grease is evenly distributed, all the gear surfaces have grease, nice and wet. Performance has been excellent. I could have closed it up and moved on, but I wiped everything down, removed most of the old grease and added new Corn Head grease.

This is the consistency of the grease. Still just like pudding. I rubbed it between my fingers and could not feel any grit. Smooth as silk. All the gears/teeth are in perfect condition.

Contrary to some of the anecdotal comments about Corn Head grease being to liquidy and maybe seeping into the controller chamber, there is no seepage after three years. It is not a concern.

Hope this helps!

YMMV

Thank you, for the follow up in the Corn Head grease.
You have answered some questions I had on the CH grease,
all the framers around here use it in their combines etc.

I have my Wart Hog, 620 motor and It has 2800+ miles on the counter. I need to open it up and do the same thing, as it's starting to growl at me, and I am sure it needs it.

My Jugg's 4, 620 motor only has over 500+ miles and is still
halfway quite, so far, but it's due?.

Old Blue, my Montague lite weight standard bike doesn't have motor yet, so it don't need any CH grease, that I know of.
But, I did use CH on all the axle bearings/steering tube,
when I went thru it, after sitting for 15+ yrs in the back seat of a Cessna 180 Sky Wagon and nothing was done to it, for/during that time period.
Thanks,Don

Sounds like you got some greasin' to do on at least two of your bikes! I'm glad I could provide some follow up for my fellow riders. When I decided to use Corn Head grease, I only had one reference and most people looked askance at the concept. Thanks for your reply and support

Thanks for the update. Time to suck it up and re-grease my motor.
Yeah, I cannot believe I waited two years to crack it open and check the grease. I just wasn't in the mood to "suck it up" and do the maintenance! I swear I'll check the grease within a year this time!

Thanks Tom/Keith
Ya, I'll also have to suck it up and do the work also. It'd been
right at 4 yrs since the WH came into my hands from the factory.

My major concern is,
that I'll open it and do the work, then it won't run afterwards.
Me and electrical stuff DON'T play well together.
The electrical always WINS.......

And I have a big question:
How/what do you use to clean the old grease out of the motor,
I know shop rags for the HD work, but what about the remaining grease in around the gear teeth and other small hidden places?

Do you need pullers to remove all the gears?
Use a spray cleaner or something along those lines?
Is there any NO..NO'S you should NOT do after it is opened?

Do you mark the all the electrical connection spots/gears to return them back to the OEM spots as assembled, for timing/programing etc?.

Your thoughts and suggestions...
Thanks,
Don
ps,
I am Thankful that I have a backup bike to ride,
if the Wart Hog goes down...and Old Blue as another back up.
