2026 - Our Rides in Words, Photos, Maps and Videos

The best Escort ever produced, sadly the car was having issues on Sunday but it looked amazing! I had one in the 80's and although it ran like a dream it was a rust bucket... 😂 Shame it didn't have a 2 litre Cosworth like the stunning white one! ;)
What made these Escort models so special?

It was one of the best rally cars ever and a great family car also, over 2 million were produced between 1968 and 1975!

Question is, why so good a racing platform? Always thought of Escorts as family, not performance cars. But reality is apparently more complicated than that.

We were obsessed with them, Brian had an arched mk1, Stan had a mk2 Mexico with a 2 litre dropped in, I had a mk3 Turbo, Nibby had the Cosworth, Mark had a fully prepared mk2 arched 1700.
We spent everything on them.
Ford Escorts were our lives.

This guy built my car.

Not having one myself or being as obsessed with Rally driving (it was absolutely huge in the 70s/80s) I did notice that at some point in the 80s the same lads were now all obsessed with the Audi Quattro! Which I suppose led eventually to the Mitsubishi Lancers and Colin McRae's Subaru Impreza... You had to know just enough to get by in conversation while playing pool in the pub!
