Taking An E-Bike KOM with A Public Share E-Bike on A Long Forest Segment?!

I could not believe someone could make a 13 km gravel forest segment in 30:34 riding an extremely heavy and primitive city e-bike limited to 25 km/h, as it gave the average speed of 25.6 km/h! I knew the guy, a popular person in the Warsaw gravel cycling community.

He marked his ride as done "on a Veturilo"! Obviously, that made me miserable. I even briefly considered taking a train to re-take the Course Record :D

The matter got clear on Sunday evening, when Pablo posted his video. No, it was not a Veturilo :D

It was a Raymon Norza Pro, a German gravel e-bike with a Bosch SX motor :)

'I thought it made no sense. I changed my mind'. Unfortunately, the video is in Polish only.

So, Bosch E-Bike let some gravel cyclists of Warsaw test that e-bike. As Pablo said, he hadn't seen any use for e-gravel in the flat Mazovia. However, he soon discovered how useful a lightweight e-bike was:
  • Priceless when it came to the daily commute: you could mount a rear rack, carry a pannier, and come to work dry
  • Helpful in the terrain, against increased rolling assistance, inclines and headwind
  • Giving the certainty of returning home from a ride even if the cyclist was tired
  • As good as a traditional gravel bike for workout. Either the OFF mode or pedalling above the speed restrictor.
He took the segment record totally unintentionally! He decided to give the Raymon a very fast ride on the Poligon, only relying on the assistance when the bike was slowing down below 25 km/h. And well, the average speed was what he would actually achieve on a pedal gravel bike! :)

Why did he put "Veturilo" as his gear? Hah, just a generic bike type he uses for any e-bike ridden by him! Again, no bad intention! :)
-------------
It is so pleasant to see a hardcore competing gravel cyclist getting convinced by e-bikes, and talking about the e-bike so competently! Bravo, Pablo!

Haha Stefan! that Raymon Norza Pro makes more sense! Bosch 600W 60Nm mid-drive.

Well, at least you held a KOM! I never even try, as I live in an area with intense cyclists. and laugh at segment KOMs that are 25% of my time. I won't even try. I only see it afterwards on Strava.

Oh, I forgot, my rides are private so even if I did somehow have the fastest segment time, it would not count towards a KOM, but obviously I don't care about that.

What’s a KOM?
Anyone with a Strava subscription can create a segment, which is a section on a map. Now, the best rider on that segment takes a segment record:
  • CR (Course Record), which is the best result regardless of the rider's sex
  • KOM (King Of Mountain), or a male record
  • QOM (Queen Of Mountain), or a female record.
To separate different activities, Strava maintains different segment types:
  • Ride segments
  • MTB segments
  • E-Bike segments
(These could be more, idk). As the user creates a segment, it is based on an actually ridden course and on the activity type. If a newly created segment overlaps another of the same activity type, the new segment is rejected by Strava.

I still hold 23 E-Bike CRs, especially where e-bikers usually do not ride :) (I gradually lose these records to stronger e-bikers, especially in the mountains where e-biking is popular).

You can only get these parameters at the cadence 100+ in the specific SPRINT mode of the SX motor. Bear in mind that Raymon was limited to 25 km/h, so Pablo rode mostly unassisted! And no, he took both the CR and the KOM :)

I got that e-KOM on a gravel group ride on a Vado 6.0 (which is equivalent to the U.S. Class 3). My brother rode a Giant Trance E+ derestricted. He would have won (as always) but he missed my sprint on the 7.33 km forest gravel segment :D

Are they :) I could see your latest activity on May 17th :)

QOM isnt a good word, it sounds rude to say.

I tried something new.

The route is one of my regular mostly rolling hills paved roads

First Garmin Coach workout titled “Long Ride”, targeting Power between 87 to 126 W, for 1h, 40min.
Was fairly simple to stay on target balancing cadence, gear, and assist level, but some short steep climbs had me at higher watts. I'm satisfied overall with the workout. Average Power for ride = 100W / weighted power 114W. I rode 1 hr, 20 mins. I’ve never done structured training before, such as intervals. I am sure that will be in the mix.

Very warm day at noon, low 90s! I stopped when I noticed they did a lot of trimming to give a clearer view of the reservoir.

Those 87W and 126W power limits are oddly specific numbers. What do they mean? Estimated zone boundaries of some kind?
Yes, the target range of my Power output. First time ever using the Garmin Coach. I didn't do much research but I just set it up last night in Garmin Connect and it gave me this for the first workout. I don't race so I never had any sort of schedule, just trying this now. it is a 5 day a week schedule, with various types of workouts. I did not even look at those coming next.

Here is an overview of the Garmin Training. I chose Garmin Cycling Coach, with a focus on Power. Again, I am just experimenting.

I usually keep cadence under tight control to keep knees and motor happy, but occasionally ride to stay in a certain rider power band like you did, just for kicks. Interesting game to play in the saddle.

Did the Tuesday night shop ride again this week. The pace was much faster. I got a paceline started on the way to the turnaround, then a storm blew in. Gusts to 25-30mph. After the turnaround, it was go time. I was wondering why the cars wouldn't pass us, until I looked down to see that we were going over 30mph. My legs are shot. 27 miles, about 15 minutes of stop time, 1:25. 850Kj.

Wow, you were crus'n! 30mph and 30mph winds! I should try a group ride on my Creo, would have to find a group that allows eBikes. but most group rides are sooooo early. I am a sunset rider usually.

My legs are still tight from my MTB ride I rode on Sunday, 13.5 miles with 2840ft, with way too many 15-18+% grade sections. no assist avail on the Exie 😜

Our weather has been awful lately but I had a 3 hour weather window today and managed my quickest 50 miler ever on my e bike, the 30mph tailwind was fun on the way out to Linlithgow but tough on the way back! I had to outrun some rain at the start but having a strong tailwind sure helped, I was intending to head a bit further south on the way back but had to abort that due to a big squall over Bathgate! This has been a common occurence recently but things are looking up with a heatwave incoming at the weekend (19-22C which is probably like winter for some of you here but its a heatwave here) 😂

You lot keep complaining about me not showing cars in my photos...🤣 so here are some from my visit to Knockhill Racing Circuit last Sunday, I was sure glad I didn't cycle up as it was extremely cold and we had hail showers and torrential rain at times...

I'm hoping to get out tomorrow afternoon also but it depends on the conditions after heavy rain in the morning...

great to see the Escort Mk1 still tearing around the track. Every rally fan's fav car around my neck of the woods when growing up! The Billy Coleman era!

The best Escort ever produced, sadly the car was having issues on Sunday but it looked amazing! I had one in the 80's and although it ran like a dream it was a rust bucket... 😂 Shame it didn't have a 2 litre Cosworth like the stunning white one! ;)
