You need to try Vegemite
It tastes like miso. I'll bet you could make miso soup out of it. Vegemite, you make miso very happy. I'm so glad you came into my life.
Or you could make a miso sandwich and hand it to a guy who is 6'4" and full of muscles.

Canadian bacon is a cross between SPAM and bacon.

Not sure what this thread has to do with biking perhaps the "breakfast of champions" but anyways after 70 "Canadian" years not hearing about Canadian bacon thought must be more fake news but in all fairness yep there is such a thing, AI says Canadian bacon like ham from lean loin and American bacon from pork belly saltier and crispy, and I'm sure my better half will say stick to your oatmeal and blueberries but but but ...

I've always had great respect for Canada and its people. If you're implying that Canadian bacon isn't the bacon Canadians actually eat, I'm even prouder to have them as neighbors.

Still no cycling here, we are experiencing the same cold snap as last January when my first ride wasn't until January 14th! The weather has been lovely though and I have been enjoying some nice walks, this morning I drove to Falkirk and visited Callendar Park in the centre of town! I treated myself to a new pair of heated cycling gloves and got to test them this morning, I can't wait to get the bike out and enjoy warm hands again! They have 3 heat settings and 2 heating elements so you can have heat on the back of your hand or your palm or both, guess what I chose today in the -7C temp? ;)

I decided to leave them on and see how long they would last with everything on full, just over 2 and a half hours! I did go for the most powerful 4000mAh batteries though...they weren't cheap of course but what price do you put on comfort?

The gloves have touchscreen capability also so I managed to grab some photos without taking them off!

Most of the ponds are frozen over but the wildlife did have this little spot in the corner!

You need to try Vegemite.
My mother used run a B&B in Ireland when I was growing up and we always had some Vegemite in the cupboard for the Aussie travellers. Like many Irish families we had all visited Oz at one point or another and brought some back. Though it had to be separated in the cupboard from the Marmite, in case of fights.

I manage to get out once a day but this rain is nuts. I am organizing a group ride up a mountain on either Sunday or Monday when it will finally be sunny. It is a beautiful place, dare I say magical? It is so close, yet a world away. There are views of vineyards, the Pacific, and to San Francisco and the bay to the south. It is open range land with cows on the road.

Okay, so the forecast said that the rain would let up for an hour, so I went for a five mile ride. When I got back I had to peel off my socks and pants. It didn't let up. The river is at its banks and the road to the next town is flooded. I am still glad that I did it.

We finally got a warmer day here in Western Illinois, about 54f felt like summer. I rode an easy going 12 miles. There isn’t much to see around here this time of year but barren farm ground so I took a picture of the Colchester library as I rode through town. It’s kind of a neat old building.

Vegemite? I’ve had it. I’m pretty sure it’s fatal to people that live in the northern hemisphere.😉

Im sure everyone didnt drive past and say..'whos that looney?'

Wait a sec. The northern hemisphere guy from Brussels who was 6'4" and full of muscles; are you saying that by handing him a vegemite sandwich it was a southern hemisphere plot to assassinate him? I thought it was to fortify his workouts, like drinking Guinness at lunch. The flute solo was inspired by the kookaburras' song.

That eBike group ride on Sunday is gaining a lot of traction as word spreads. It started as two people then it went to four, now people are posting it on social media. I would be happy for five riders, but hundreds of local eyeballs will see it, so who knows.

Well, I don’t know if that’s good or bad, but have fun! I wouldn’t want to ride with more than 3 or 4 people, but those are probably more technical rides.

Just on an unrelated note :) An English bass player for The Damned (and previously for Eddie & The Hot Rods and several other known bands), Paul Gray (67), skidded on black ice while riding his Cube e-MTB last week. He expected the worst but it turned out all ended in an extended pain. He wrote he could be able to play with The Damned after three weeks.

Paul Gray and his Cube e-bike, 14th July 2025.

A video of Paul playing the bass line of The Damned song he had previously played 30 years before. All from his memory, no backing track, no metronome!
