    2021–2022 Riese & Müller Homage

Here’s the thing, security through obscurity doesn’t work. It just takes one DIYer with enough EE to prod around to find out how it works, and then share the results of that discovery with everyone else. You can call it “semi-lock-in”, but the reality is that unless I’m being very uncharitable...

    2021–2022 Riese & Müller Homage

Honestly, if I was I designing for an exposed environment like this, I would probably do something similar. Using a low voltage, low current signal to enable the higher current lines by itself isn’t much of a vendor lock-in. It’s not much better than locking a shed with a Master padlock with the...

    Rohloff e-14 oil leak

I’m curious about this too. My assumption is that the two hubs are the same, at least between the E14 and the external gear mech.

    Handlebar adjustments on Nevo 3

The one marked “16Nm” looks like the bolt that locks the stem’s angle to me. The ”11Nm” looks like the one to set the angle of the cradle in the same way. They are lined up with the pivot points, which is the giveaway. 11Nm is pretty high torque for a bolt that looks like it goes straight into...

    2021–2022 Riese & Müller Homage

This is why I had 155mm cranks put on my Nevo. Fully worth it from that angle. My knees definitely feel the difference. Clearance was really icing on the cake by that point. You should as saddle height is supposed to be adjusted relative to the pedal so that your leg is straight when the pedal...

    Nyon MY21 - Initial Thoughts

A ride segment ends when the bike hasn’t moved for a few minutes. It also seems that removing the Nyon from the mount triggers this. The trip data is reset depending on how you’ve configured it. I have to agree on the charging extra. It’d be more of a deterrent if it was clear that a Bosch...

    Nyon Map/Route options

Shortest route isn't always the fastest. It's a bit more obvious with cars where short routes and fast routes can have vastly different speeds. In areas where bike infrastructure doesn't have to interact with streets and intersections as often, you can get some wins on slightly longer routes by...

    Nyon MY21 - Initial Thoughts

There’s two modes for starting a route. One which guides you to the start of the route first, and one that guides you to the closest point in the route and then continues the route. The second one is meant for the situation you describe. It does get confused when riding “out and back” type...

    Product Improvement:- Feedback to Bosch.

I 100% agree it is possible in firmware, and I don’t think it’s unreasonable to ask either. But the phrase “penny wise, pound foolish” comes to mind when it comes to how budgets get allocated for work in large companies. I’ve hit this wall myself many times in my engineering career where folks...

    Product Improvement:- Feedback to Bosch.

I would assume that the general answer is related to management and engineering costs. I can ship a product that conforms to the most restrictive set of regulations across the various regions I sell (which may be a mix of things from different regions), and be guaranteed to be compliant...

    2021–2022 Riese & Müller Homage

This is one issue with the wheel stop. The sizes of Homage I looked at had larger wheelbases.

Based on my experience with the app, it’s likely the app is some flavor of React Native / Electron. So this behavior is likely something that appears on Android as well. It’s still worth mentioning what platform the bug was found on though, as a developer on cross-platform mobile apps myself.

Nyon 2021 not syncing some rides.

Having it sync over WiFi rather than my phone did help me, making it upload when I got home, rather than on the ride itself. Another thing to try is enable “Data saving mode” on your phone in the eBike Connect settings. It should prevent uploads of ride data over the phone while you are away...

    Product Improvement:- Feedback to Bosch.

Oh, I did run across one more eBike Connect bug on the iPhone: If for any reason the iPhone syncs down an incomplete activity, while the portal has the complete one, it is possible that the iPhone will refuse to sync the complete activity. Interestingly, it did eventually seem to get refreshed...

    bosch nyon 2021 release date

I don’t think I can completely answer your question, but I have been playing with them. The Nyon stores both the standard and custom ride modes, allowing you to toggle between them without having to sync. So there doesn’t seem to be any overlap, and I wouldn’t expect eMTB to bleed over into the...

    OBSERVATIONS ON 155mm CRANKS

This came up in a different thread, and Bosch does have a setting that should be updated for short cranks. It looks like it does have an effect on the signals the motor gets from the torque sensors that is measurable and can be accounted for, with a larger impact on eMTB mode. But I think your...

Nyon 2021 not syncing some rides.

I had that happen once, and had to sync via my phone over bluetooth to get it to finish uploading. I did setup the Nyon with my smartphone rather than logging in directly from the Nyon. I think in my case, it had started by using the smartphone to upload data, and would only allow it to...

    Product Improvement:- Feedback to Bosch.

If after bringing up the workout, there's heart rate information in there, then Garmin is providing some heart rate information to HealthKit. Otherwise, if it's not there, Garmin isn't providing it. Both Garmin's TCX file format and HealthKit support the same abilities when recording heart rate...

    Product Improvement:- Feedback to Bosch.

Huh, okay, looks like I was misinformed, or Apple changed something at some point. I had seen reports that at least the time would count for third party apps, but unless you are riding at 34mph, it clearly isn’t counting towards rings. If workouts from Garmin/Strava are missing data though...

    Product Improvement:- Feedback to Bosch.

Hmm, yeah, there should be some de-duplication going on, and I wouldn’t be surprised if Apple favors the watch over third party sources when it has overlapping time stamps on data. But data incoming from third party apps shouldn’t be overwritten, so whatever Garmin added should remain intact...
