    Specialized’s ultra-light 120-mile range e-bike - Turbo Vado SL

The same decision was made for me when my Vado 4 was stolen last March--the day before San Francisco went on lockdown. I loved the Vado, but felt it was too boosted and too heavy for the kind of cycling I really wanted to do. Bought a Vado 4 SL and love it!

    Specialized’s ultra-light 120-mile range e-bike - Turbo Vado SL

Agreed. I never have noticed a "wall." Could be different in the US. Here, it's not a "speed restrictor," but rather an assist cutoff that kicks in... also at much higher speed.

    Specialized’s ultra-light 120-mile range e-bike - Turbo Vado SL

Fair--I should have probably said, "28mph indicated" on the TCD and with my firmware updates. :-)

    Specialized’s ultra-light 120-mile range e-bike - Turbo Vado SL

Sounds like you have it well figured out. Nice SL, by the way. Very sleek in matte black! My entire city is 7 miles x 7 miles, so as you might imagine, plenty of hills within my 6-8 mile loops as well... :-) Funny, I've been climbing a couple of SF's 20%+ grades (very hard work) and with most...

    Specialized’s ultra-light 120-mile range e-bike - Turbo Vado SL

There's definitely a learning curve involved in climbing hills with these "properly assisted" bikes. Anyone who's ridden an unassisted bike will likely have the inclination to muscle over the hill by torque. Conversely, an ebike like a regular Vado (with gobs of assist) begs you to crank it to...

    Pannier for Vado

Stefan-have you inserted the spacers into the clips of your Ortlieb panniers? They make for a more snug clip to the rack bar and a more secure mounting.

    Specialized’s ultra-light 120-mile range e-bike - Turbo Vado SL

Our motivations for choosing the Vado SL are quite similar (substitute BART for the London Underground) and our findings are similar, too. Even though I opted for the 4.0, I choked on the price tag a bit, too (LOL). Regarding the fenders--my bike is the "EQ" model, so it came equipped with...

Same here, the lock was gone, which led me to believe it was picked, or perhaps I hadn't secured it properly. I don't think someone who broke the lock would take the time to fold it up and neatly ride away with it, but that's just supposition on my part. I have a partial video of the theft, but...

Questions: Was your ABUS lock a folding lock? Was it picked, or broken?

Progressive. The claim was handled via something called "Homesite" in Salt Lake City. To add further drama to this story, I filed this claim with them on the same day as their medium-sized earthquake. Communications and internet were interrupted and everyone was hurriedly readying for COVID...

    Bonjour from Northern California!

I used to occasionally carry my Vado up stairs or on a long escalator run at BART. Not pleasant. I used to grab the crossbar and carry it like a suitcase, or sometimes, put the crossbar under my arm and hold it by the seat tube. Either way, cumbersome and heavy, as throwing it up on my shoulder...

    Specialized’s ultra-light 120-mile range e-bike - Turbo Vado SL

Good going on the purchase! You will love it. That color is rad. If it came in EQ, I might have gotten it, too. Thanks for the shout-out. Happy to add some value to the conversation. It's really hard to go wrong either way, though. With regard to the motor whine. You're right to note that it's...

I Messed Up... and Now I Own an eBike

Big fan of the Vado 4.0 here...and SF riding. I'm a previous owner of a Vado 4.0 and current owner of a Vado 4.0 SL EQ. Nicely written. Enjoy!

Turbo Vado 4.0 SL-EQ maiden voyage from bike shop to home was beyond fun. Does anyone know if there is a speedometer integrated into Mission control?

Wireless TCD display costs $97 to add to a Vado SL 4.0. Mine came with the mount installed already, which I removed. I had experience with the TCD (wired) in my previous Vado. It was nice, but not essential to me. I have not missed it on my SL, as its main function for me was battery level and...

    Hello from Northern California

Same here on the seat post. It's expensive and a little weird. I bought mine from Selle Anatomica (recommend them for a saddle, too) and got 25% off, with an offer to return in 30 days (I believe) if I needed. It took all of about 10 miles and a couple of adjustments to let me know I loved the...

    Experiences with ebike insurance

On the theft side, my renter's policy covered the theft of my Vado 4.0 (stolen from the garage of my building--neighbor left the door open overnight), almost no questions asked. I had filed a police report online with no investigation, other than to get a "pending" email confirmation from SFPD...
